Posted by April 21st, 2010 | 0 Comments »

It was a very special American Idol Wednesday night (April 21).  The episode opened with a greeting from President Obama and the First Lady.  They thanked everyone for their generosity and closed with President Obama quoting Randy Jackson saying, “You are all my Dawgs” and Michele Obama warning Simon to be nice.

Idol Gives Back, aired live in Hollywood, hosted by Ryan Seacrest and in Pasadena the energetic Queen Latifah was the host.

Many celebrities joined the contestants to raise money for charities in the US and around the world.

Jennifer Garner and Victoria Beckham shared stories about families who are involved with Save The Children Programs.

The Black Eyed Peas gave an exciting performance of their hit Rock That Body.

Actor/comedian George Lopez gave Ryan a helping hand by coming on stage to Judge the Judges.  He told Randy he used Dawg and Pitchy too much, but since he is the only ‘brother’ on the show, He Is Safe.  George said Kara says, ‘I wanted you to make it your own’ and every night you say you wrote that song, but since I wallpapered my room with your naked picture from the magazine, You are Safe.  He was surprised Ellen was not always dancing and declared her Safe.  Randy asked Simon to wear a bigger T-shirt because every night we know how cold it is in the studio.  But America voted and he has to go back to England.  But due to the volcanic ash over Europe, He too is Safe.

Kasey was the first contestant announced as being in the bottom three.  Next, to join him was Aaron.

Rock guitarist Jeff Beck and soul jazz singer Joss Stone performed  the blues rock track I Put a Spell on You.

Morgan Freeman and Randi Jackson visited families Mississippi with very moving and emotional stories who have been helped by Save The Children.

This week’s mentor and co-founder of Keep a Child Alive, Alicia Keyes, gave a stunning performance of Empire State Mind (part II).

Carrie Underwood graced the Idol stage again, but this time to give back, singing Change.

David Arquette and Ellen DeGeneres visited Pasadena and went to a Feed America food bank.  They spoke with a family in need and explained how $10 can supply 90 pounds of food.

Bill and Melinda Gates spoke with Ryan about their charity Global Health.  Their foundation fights diseases such as malaria by providing bed nets.

Comedian Wanda Sykes came out to support Idol Gives Back and lightened the mood with some very funny jokes.

The final person in the bottom three was Tim.  He was sent to join Kasey and Aaron.

Season 7 winner David Cook took a trip to Ethopia and shared his report.  He was there to represent Idol Gives Back and the UN Foundation.

Anne Lenox gave a report from Africa about a little girl afflicated with HIV and the affect the treatment had on her.  Anne gave a moving, recorded performance but could not make it to the show because she was stuck in London because of the Icelandic volcano.

Mary J. Blige, sang Stairway to Heaven with a band that included Steve Vai, Orianthi, Blink-182 drummer Travis Barker and Randy Jackson.

Simon gave a report about his meeting with Dr. Jon in Douglas, Arizona, to hear all about the help that Children’s Health Fund has done for the region.

Sir Elton John spoke about his charity the Elton John AIDS foundation.  The Superstar then gave a heartfelt performance of his hit Our Song.

Many celebrities including, Russell Brand, Jim Carrey Capt. Sully Sullenberger, Justin Bieber and Ben Affleck  stopped by to encourage the viewers to support Idol Gives Back.

I know the suspense is killing you.  Unfortunately the very cute Tim was sent home tonight.
