In “The Power of Madonna” episode,  Rachel asks the girls in the Glee club for “boy” advice and gives them a hypothetical situation (which is really about her and Jesse – her boyfriend).  When Jesse wants to do “it”, Rachel says no.  Quinn asks Rachel to stop talking – she is grossing out her baby.  When Mr. Shue overhears the conversation he is concerned that the girls in the glee club are being disrespected and bullied by the male members.   Looking to Madonna and her musical message of equality as inspiration, he challenges the entire team to choose Madonna songs as their next assignment in the hopes that the girls embrace Madonna’s strength, independence and confidence so that the guys will see the errors of their ways.

The glee club takes the assignment to heart and performs some of Madonna’s greatest hits, including “Express Yourself” and “Like a Prayer.” When they aren’t performing a song – Madonna’s songs are playing in the background (Burnin Up for Your Love). 

Santana asks Finn on a date and then tells him that she is willing to sleep with him.  She tells Finn that he HAS to lose his virginity and enough is enough.  Finn explains that he is saving himself for someone (Rachel).  Santana informs him that Rachel is still dating Jesse. 

When Finn asks Rachel if she is still seeing Jesse she says no but then confesses that she is still dating him and asks him not to tell anyone.  They end up singing “Open Your Heart to Me”.   Finn later approaches Santana and tells her that he is going to take her up on her offer to lose his “V”.

Rachel sneaks to meet Jesse in the library where he apologizes for pressuring her about sex and she tells him that she is read.

Emma approaches Mr. Shue and tells him that she is embracing the big “Mo” and she needs to take control of herself and her body just like Madonna.  She then tells him she plans on doing the nasty at his place and foreplay will begin at 7:30 sharp.

Meanwhile, Kurt and Mercedes give Sue a vote of confidence with a Madonna makeover that is definitely in “Vogue.”  Sue also takes on a new look with the ever popular conic bra.

While the song ‘Like a Virgin’ plays – Rachel and Jesse, Emma and Mr. Shue and Santana and Finn are all seen in bedroom scenes and then looking in the mirror.   Rachel ends up backing out and tells Jesse she can’t do it because her team would not approve.  Of course, Rachel tells Finn that she went through with it.  Finn does have sex with Santana but tells Rachel he didn’t because he is waiting for the right person.   Emma also backs out and runs out of his apartment.

Mr. Shue suggests that he and Emma wait until he is divorced to date.  He also suggests that she go for counseling to work out whatever issues she has.

Jesse leaves Vocal Adrenaline and auditions for the Glee club.  He tells Rachel he is doing it for her and she will never be his completely if he is a member of the opposing team.

Mercedes and Kurt become members of the Cheerios.  They are tired of not getting lead singing roles with the Glee Club and by becoming a part of the Cheerios they will have more of an opportunity to perform.

Finn apologizes to Rachel and tells her that he liked her and he regrets that he lost his chance with her. Before Rachel has a chance to respond – Jesse walks over.
