A Delicious, Healthy Smoothie Recipe

Posted by August 24th, 2010 | 4 Comments »

I was recently asked if I would be willing to try out a new recipe and review how it tasted. As someone who doesn’t love to cook, I had to think twice before agreeing. Thankfully, one of the choices I had was a smoothie. My daughter is all about the smoothie lately – so we decided to take a risk and “whip” up something in the kitchen.

The smoothie came out fantastic. Here is the recipe below:

Makes 2 smoothies

Half a Banana
4 -6 frozen strawberries
½ c plain yogurt
½ – 1 c orange juice
1 Tbsp Flax seeds
1 Tbsp whey protein powder

In a blender add the banana, strawberries, yogurt, and orange juice. Blend until smooth. Add the flax seeds and whey, blend until evenly distributed and enjoy!

Try to mix it up a bit using other fruits — whatever you have will work but here are some options:

Fresh blueberries, frozen raspberries & pomegranate juice
Fresh strawberries, frozen peaches & orange juice
Fresh bananas, frozen mango, & pineapple juice

We used the fresh blueberries and fresh bananas and it came out delicious.

Give it a try and let us know what you think??

Try also: soy protein powder. Whey protein is great for muscles, but there are other great benefits from soy protein. As a vegeterian, getting in some soy protein is always necessary! (Women in “the change” beware excess soy raises estogen levels, but in moderation is healthy!)

Sound yummy… I’ve been making home-made smoothies for past few years and our kids love it. Strawberry-Banana Smoothie is one of their favourite one. I have never added an orange juice, but it sounds delicious. Thank you for this tip.

I make something pretty similar to this on a regular basis. One thing I like to do is keep some cut up, over-ripe banana pieces in the freezer for smoothies.
It adds natural sweetness, plus makes it colder, almost like a milkshake :)
