DWTS Season 11, Episode 2 Recap 9/27/10 | Booing in the Audience of DWTS – Was it for Sarah Palin?

By on September 27, 2010

This week on DWTS we have the Jive and the Quickstep. There were plenty of celebrities in the audience including Sarah Palin who was there to see her daughter, Bristol Palin dance. Tom spoke to Sarah about the show. Before the cameras cut over to Sarah there was booing in the audience – do you think it had anything to do with her being there?

Rick Fox and Cheryl Burke
Dance: Jive
Song: Tush
Judges Comments: Len Goodman said it was compact, fun and full of energy. If you could dance the jive you could become a contendor here. Bruno agreed with Len as did Carrie Ann. Carrie Ann thought they did better last week.
Scores: 21/30

Florence Henderson and Corky Ballas
: Quickstep
Song: Suddenly I See
Judges Comments: Bruno loved the grand entrance but at times it was like driving Miss Daisy but it was lovely at times. Carrie Ann said she danced incredibly for a 76 year old and she liked it. Len said her age has no bearing on how Florence dances. On that performance, Len said, “I will see you next week.”
Scores: 19/30

Brandy and Maks Chmerkovskiy
Dance: Jive
Judges Comments: Carrie Ann said the energy was great but Brandy didn’t point her toes. Len said they took a step back this week and Brandy didn’t dance to her full intent. Bruno said at moments Brandy looked like a Gwen Stefani backup dancer. At the moment they aren’t good enough and they need to be extraordinary.
Scores: 21/30
Michael Bolton and Chelsie Hightower
Dance: Jive
Song: Hound Dog
Notes: Chelsea had Michael Bolten crawl out of a doghouse. It turned out to be embarrassing.
Judges Comments: Len said the world is not ready for Michael’s interpretation of the Jive and this was not his dance. Bruno said it was a doggy mess of a jive and it was probably the worst jive he has ever seen in 11 seasons. Len stuck up for Michael and said some comments should not be said because it is unfair. Carrie Ann said that Michael took a risk by crawling out of the doghouse but it was very awkward.
Scores: 12/30

Audrina Patridge and Tony Dovalani
Dance: Jive
Song: Love Machine
Notes: Audrina made a statement that she is sacrificing everything for DWTS. She broke down and told Tony that her boyfriend was getting mad because they haven’t spent any time together.
Judges Comments: Bruno said the movement was great. Carrie Ann said there was huge improvement from last week. Len said that their performance was the best performance for the evening.
Tony told Audrina that if they didn’t get three 8’s this week he would wax his legs. With two eights and one seven it looks like he’ll have nice smooth legs next week.

Jennifer Grey and Derek Hough
Dance: Jive
Song: Shake It
Judges Comments: Carrie Ann said from start to finish their energy never let up. Bruno said it was a killer jive and they nailed it. Len said it was bright, colorful, full on fabulous job.
Scores: 24/30

Margaret Cho and Louis Van Amstel
Dance: Jive
Song: Dreaming
Judges Comments: Len said the kicks need more toning. Bruno said Margaret’s buttocks needed to be tightened. Carrie Ann said there was definite improvement from last week but Margaret needed to watch her facial expressions.
Scores: 18/30

Kyle Massey and Lacey Schwimmer
Dance: Quickstep
Song: I Want You To
Judges Comments: Bruno said Kyle is a powerhouse of energy as a performer but that in ballroom you need more control. As a performer he is unbeatable but as a dancer he needs more control. Carrie Ann loved it. Len said it wasn’t a class quickstep – Kyle was flat footed but he liked it anyway.

Kurt Warner and Anna Trebunskaya
Song: Danger Zone
Judges Comments: Carrie Ann said it seems like it is very easy for Kurt. Len said the kicks are a little bit soft but a job well done. Bruno said this is a cool guy that does a cool jive. Bruno can’t wait to see his progression over the competition.
Scores: 21/30

Bristol Palin and Mark Ballas
Song: You Can’t Hurry Love
Judges Comments: Bruno said Bristol needs to become an actress and focus a bit more on performing. Carrie Ann said Bristol is beautiful to watch and reminds her of Kelly Osbourne. Len said it’s neat and precise but it needs more flare.
Scores: 22/30

Michael “The Situation” Sorrentino and Karina Smirnoff
Dance: Quickstep
Song: We No Speak Americano
Judges Comments: Len said it was a series of unfortunate events. For a difficult dance they did a good job. Bruno said Michael needs to find the right balance. Carrie Ann said Michael needs to bust out the musicality.
Scores: 18/30

The lowest score of the evening went to Michael Bolten and Chelsie Hightower with 12/30. The high score of the evening was a 24/30 going to Jennifer Grey and Derek Hough. Audrina Patridge was close behind with a 23/30.
