Dancing With the Stars Season 12 Premiere Recap 3/21/11

Finally – the moment we have all been waiting for – the season premiere of Season 12’s Dancing With the Stars. The first dances of Season 12 are the Foxtrot and the Cha Cha Cha.

Chelsea Kane and Professional Dancer, Mark Ballas

Dance: Foxtrot
Judges Comments:  Len Goodman said they were a young, fresh couple.  Overall they did a very good job.  Bruno said you started on your back and ended on your back.  Sometimes it was a little bit messy and Chelsea needs more control. Carrie Ann said Chelsea has a lot of potential and there is a lack of connection with the full body but overall a good job.

Wendy Williams and Professional Dancer, Tony Dovolani

Dance:  Cha Cha Cha
Judges Comments:  Bruno told Wendy she is a beautiful woman.  Show us your personality.  Carrie Ann said Wendy needs to go way more.  She needs to unleash the beast, the bigger than life spirit.  Len said he thought it was going to be special.  The performance was introverted not Wendy’s outgoing personality.
Score:  14/30

Hines Ward and Professional Dancer, Kym Johnson

Dance: Cha Cha Cha
Judges Comments:  Carrie Ann said who knew that under that helmet and uniform was all that. You were sparkling, great performance.  Len said it was clean, crisp and you were confident.  You have to work on your posture, enjoyed it – good job.  Bruno said the timing was excellent. You need to work on the posture.
Score:   21/30

Petra Nemcova and Professional Dancer, Dmitry Chaplin

Petra broke her pelvis in a tsunami where she lost her fiance.  This dance she dedicated to all those in Japan.

Dance: Foxtrot
Judges Comments:  Len thought the whole routine had a charm about it and grace and elegance.  Well done.  Bruno said there were some moments of extreme beauty but she needs to get stronger.  Carrie Ann said she is graceful but there was a long drag but they wouldn’t be penalized since it was the first week.
Score:  18/30

Romeo and Professional Dancer, Chelsie Hightower

Dance: Cha Cha Cha
Judges Comments:  Bruno said it was a good performance.  Carrie Ann said you have sex appeal for days.  The dance is about the sexual energy but he needs to work on his posture.  Len said you have a lot of energy but it was a bit too carefree.  Work on technique and you’ll go a long way.
Score:  19/30

Sugar Ray Leonard and Professional Dance Partner, Anna Trebunskaya

Dance:  Foxtrot
Judges Comments:  Carrie Ann said Sugar Ray lights up the dance floor and he reminds her of Ben Vereen.  Len said the foxtrot is fine wine and cavier.  It was beer and pizza.  Bruno you were really giving it but you turned into a Ninja Turtle.
Score:  17/30

Kendra Wilkinson and Professional Dance Parter Louis Van Amstel

Dance: Cha Cha Cha
Judges Comments:  Len said content of routine was fantastic.  Very entertaining and well done.   Bruno said Kendra could definitely strut her stuff and she needs to watch her legs.  Carrie Ann said she had a lot of spunk.
Score:  18/30

Ralph Macchio and Karina Smirnoff

Dance: Foxtrot
Judges Comments:  Bruno said they were a hit.  Great showmanship but watch the hands.  Carrie Ann said wow, an amazing surprise.  Such elegance.  Len said Ralph had great potential and it was the best foxtrot for the evening.
Score:  24/30

Chris Jericho and Professional Dance Partner, Cheryl Burke

Dance: Cha Cha Cha
Judges Comments:  Carrie Ann said you have a power when you dance but you need to put more content in the dance.  Len said your hips are allergic to music because they didn’t seem to work much. You came out and did well.  Bruno called Chris the dancing beast.  At times messy but always entertaining.
Score:  19/30

Mike Catherwood and Professional Dance Partner, Lacey Schwimmer

Dance: Foxtrot
Judges Comments:  Len Goodman said dancing is moving to music – he moved and there was music but he didn’t see much dancing.  Bruno said the foxtrot should flow.  Carrie Ann said the other judges were hard on him.  He was a little jerky but the foxtrot is smooth.
Score:  13/30

Kirstie Alley and Professional Dance Partner Maks Chmerkovskiy

Dance: Cha Cha Cha
Judges Comments:  Bruno said he likes what he could see.  Kirstie’s foot placement was the best of the night.  Carrie Ann said she was working it.  Way to go.  Len said the dance was fun, cheeky and it was well done.
Score:  23/30

The high scores of the evening went to Ralph and Kirstie.  The low scores of the evening went to Wendy and Mike.  Who are your favorites??
