Scarlett Johansson and Sean Penn are no longer dating.

There was a lot of speculation about the state of the unlikely pair’s union when Penn flew solo at the Cannes Film Festival for his movie The Tree of Life. Johansson had been working on The Avengers in New Mexico at the time so it couldn’t be confirmed.

Johansson, 26, and Penn, 50, made headlines for both their age difference and for the speed of their relationship. Johannson had just split from her then husband, Ryan Reynolds when she and Penn took a whirlwind trip to Cabo San Lucas.

The reason for the split wasn’t immediately known. Reps declined to comment according to People.
