Dancing with the Stars (DWTS) Season 13 ‘Week 2′ Recap 9/26/11

And then there were 11! In case you weren’t following last week, Ron Artes aka Metta World Peace, got the boot. I don’t think that was much of a surprise, all in all, a pretty harmless vote off.

With the Jive and the Quick Step dominating the dance floor tonight, the stars had some entertaining performances. It was very apparent Glen was upset people weren’t following dance guidelines. If you are anything like me, you have no idea what the dance “rules” are, so in my book J.R. is the best! But Glen did not give him the highest score stating that he didn’t even dance the Jive, it incorporated too much of other dances.

The stars were looking good but it didn’t mean they were dancing good. Although Carson looked great and was entertaining he wasn’t the best technical dancer. If anything he will stay in for pure entertainment purposes. Chaz danced the slowest quick step of the night, he was injured, but it resulted in terribly low scores and not the most entertaining performance. Glen was “disturbed” by Ricki Lake’s performance but she still pulled high scores from all the judges.

Rob is the only contestant who showed a vast improvement for the better. Glen gave Nancy Grace an eight based solely on the fact that they actually performed Quick Step holds and moves throughout the entire performance – unlike many more entertaining dances of the night.  Hopefully the contestants will step it up next week and make Bruno say some entertaining, slightly inappropriate comments. Is it just me or does Elisabetta gotta go?!

Hope Solo and  Dance Partner, Maksim Chmerkovskiy

Song: Girlfriend

Dance: The Jive

Judges Comments: Glen said it was crisp but stated unfortunately you lost your timing a little bit. Bruno said I know you are fit and your body could crack a walnut but all the power is not enough you need to be precise and acurite. He didn’t think she put enough time into her routine. Carrie Ann loved the performance and said she agrees with Bruno a little bit and she needs a little work on her routines.

Score: 19/30

Kristin Cavallari and Dance Partner, Mark Ballas

Song: Diamonds Are a Girls Best Friend

Dance: The Quick Step

Judges Comments: Bruno was bedazzled by the blonde bomb shell but stated they need to remember to hold frame. Carrie Ann last week was nervous this week was stunning. She said it was elegant and she floated across the stage. Carrie Ann said it was gorgeous. Glen stated you look fantastic but it wasn’t as good as you look (lots of boo’s). Overall Glen said  it was a great improvement on last week, well done.

Score: 22/30

David Arquette and Dance Partner, Kym Johnson

Song: Runaway Baby

Dance: The Jive

Judges Comments: Carrie Ann said Carson has some competition. She loved the incredible enthusiasm. She said you were loose but maybe a little too loose. Glen said he was almost speechless, any connection with the jive was a coincidence and the technique was not there. He liked the enthusiasm but it was just a little bit wild and frantic. Bruno said we told you not to hold back and you definitely didn’t hold back. He stated you were like a runaway train off of derailment. Bruno said you are finding your persona and performing with confidence.

Score: 18/30

Elisabetta Canalis and  Dance Partner, Val Chmerkovskiy

Song: Don’t Get Me Wrong

Dance: The Quick Step

Judges Comments: Glen said it’s not great but it was better then last week. Bruno said the gears were grinding, the engines were hot, and the pistols were pumping. He stated keep working, great to see you perform. Carrie Ann said she totally came back and overcame from last week.

Score: 21/30

Rob Kardashian and Dance Partner, Cheryl Burke

Song: Surfing Safari

Dance: The Jive

Judges Comments: Bruno said you’re starting to blossom, you’ve found your own voice, great great great improvement. Carrie Ann said it’s official Rob Kardashian is a better dancer then Kim Kardashian! She stated you have the dancing gene and it’s nice to see your confidence. Glen said it was confident and it was a full on great improvement, well done.

Score: 21/30

Carson Kressley and Dance Partner, Anna Trebunskaya

Song: Walkin’ Back to Loneliness

Dance: The Quick Step

Judges Comments: Carrie Ann saw improvement but didn’t know where she saw the improvement in the dance, she said it was a  little wobbly. Glen said what the trouble is, is that the worst dances on the show are the most fun to watch- he wants to see him come back. Bruno said it was Pee Wee Herman goes to the prom. He said you can see all the work put in, technically there is a lot of work to do but entertainment is there.

Score: 18/30

Ricki Lake and Dance Partner, Derek Hough

Song: Hey Ya

Dance: The Jive

Judges Comments: Glen said it disturbed him a little bit and he didn’t like it but it was an improvement on last week. Bruno said she was the first person tonight who did the kicks and flips correctly tonight. Carrie Ann said it was the best dance so far.

Score: 23/30

Chaz Bono and Dance Partner, Lacey Schwimmer

Song: You’re Gonna Make It After All

Dance: The Quick Step

Judges Comments: Bruno said there’s a likability with him and he was like an ewok dancing with Princess Leia, but this dance requires quick steps. The quick step has to be fast and have an energetic delivery and it requires a fastness that wasn’t there. Carrie Ann said she could see his pain and his charm took him only so far. Glen admires his determination however it is a quick step and it was too slow. It needed more speed and attack.

Score: 17/30

Chynna Phillips and Dance Partner, Tony Dovolan

Song: The Boy Does Nothing

Dance: The Jive

Judges Comments: Carrie Ann really enjoys her watching her dance. Carrie Ann thought she played it safe even asking if she was injured! Glen said it was good but it wasn’t great, he said it needed more excitement. Bruno said there is a sexy siren underneath everything and it’s just trying to get out and once she goes full bar it’s going to be extraordinary.

Score: 21/30

Nancy Grace and Dance Partner, Tristan MacManus

Song: It Don’t Mean a Thing If it Ain’t Got that Swing

Dance: The Quick Step

Judges Comments: Glen said how refreshing because during the entire dance they remained their hold. Glen said it was a proper quick step, well done. Bruno said it was vivacious, alive, and confident. Although he stated it was a bit top heavy at times,  it really is great to see you taking over the dance floor. Carrie Ann said she likes razzle dazzle and although it didn’t have it, she loved the team work that came out of it. Carrie Ann and Glen fought for a couple minutes over dancing the proper dance vs. giving the crowd “razzle dazzle”.

Score: 21/30

J.R. Martinez and Dance Partner, Karina Smirnoff

Song: Jump, Jive and Wail

Dance: The Jive

Judges Comments: Bruno exclaimed J.R. you are born to dance. He stated you have a feel for the music that comes through you, the most satisfying performance of the night. Overall ecstatic. Carrie Ann said “Grrrrr” because she didn’t like the lift. Glen said what’s on the label is not in the tin. As good as it was it wasn’t the Jive. There was too much Lindy involved in it.

Score: 22/30

High Score for the Night: Ricki Lake 23/30

Low Score for the Night: Chaz Bono 17/30
