Up All Night “Mr. Bob’s Toddler Kaleidoscope” Recap 10/12/11

It’s easy to forget that this is a show about a baby, what with the booze filled title sequence and the not so family friendly roles the main actors have had in the past. However, lest you forget, this is a show about a babies, and this episode was filled with ‘em!

Chris and Reagan take Amy to a baby play class thing, run by the borderline creepy Mr. Bob. He teaches them how to properly play peak-a-boo, tells Chris his (signature) voice is too masculine and addresses parent’s by their baby’s name. Amy’s mom is a working mother, which is a scourge on the class as shown by Kayla’s mom, a total bitch.   Really, there’s no way to sugar coat this, she’s the worst.

Over at the Ava Show, Ava and Reagan are preparing for their annual Transvestite Bangles cover band night, this time headlined by the “Manic Manny Day-gos”. Reagan has to cut the evening short to get home before Amy goes to bed, but really, don’t babies go to sleep at like 6pm? The bar wouldn’t even open by then. No matter, Reagan leaves Ava wounded again. Ava has got to figure this out yo, this “What about meeeeeeeeee?” attitude is getting old and come on! You’re smarter than that. Maybe if she sang all her lines? Hear that NBC?!

Reagan meets up with Chris and Amy and the army of babies at Mr. Bob’s Toddler Kaleidoscope (could they have picked a more difficult name for children to pronounce?). Amy’s mom starts a fight with Kayla’s mom after she’s a bitch again, and Amy, Chris and Reagan are kicked out. It seems like a cutthroat business, this baby class.

Ava asked Missy to write a speech for her Zac Posen presentation to get back at Reagan for focusing on her family. Oh, the horror! Missy is an idiot and her character really hones in on all the “pathetic” stereotypes. She has a cat! She can’t spell and has no friends! I don’t mind any of that, I just mind that she’s sucking all the fun that this character could be having. Anywho, she can’t even spell the word “Speech” so Reagan writes it for her, because Reagan just wants Ava to be happy. I think we need to see a more organic friendship between these women, because we keep hearing that they are best! friends! ever!, but Ava always treats Reagan like shit and Reagan makes excuses for her. That does happen in real life, but we need to see them be best friends, stop telling me.

So at the end of the day they make up again, and Reagan and Kayla’s mom enjoy a nice cathartic stroller bashing. Chris again surprises Reagan at work with Amy, and it tidies up nicely. I’m not saying I want drama from my 22 minutes NBC show, but spice things up a little. Next week; Mya Rudolph sings all her lines! (Just saying.)
