The season premiere of Celebrity Wife Swap has Tracey Gold, best known for her role as Carol Seaver on Growing Pains and Carnie Wilson, of Wilson/Philips trading husbands for a week. Gold is a self-described control freak and has a very organized home while Carnie Wilson is a believer that love is more important than rules. This should be very interesting.
The rules of Celebrity Wife Swap, is in the first part of the swap, each mom moves into the other’s home and must adopt their new celebrity family’s lifestyle, no matter how different. She agrees to follow a manual written by the departing mother that sets out the rules of the household – how to parent, manage their social life, do house work, unwind and more.
Gary Busey and Ted Haggard will swap wives tonight (Jan 3rd). Check out the preview here.
In the second half of the week, everything changes when the new moms take charge. They introduce their own set of rules and get to run the new household their way. It’s a radical shock to both celebrity families, with results that are explosive, enlightening, emotional and often very funny.
It’s funny to watch the two discover who they are switching places with – both completely impressed with the other one.
Tracey Gold runs a tight ship in her home. She and her husband, Roby Marshall, are inseparable and keep strict daily schedules for their four boys — Sage (14), Bailey (12), Aiden (7) and Dylan (3). Each day, Gold makes sure the family eats their meals together, and from sunrise to sunset she and Roby are diligently managing their household by cooking, cleaning, doing laundry and running errands.
Gold swaps lives with Carnie Wilson, a member of the successful music group Wilson Phillips and daughter of the Beach Boys’ Brian Wilson. Carnie is often out on the road working and performing, and refers to her relationship with record producer husband Rob as being like “two ships passing in the night.” The couple has two daughters, Lola (6) and Luci (2).
Upon entering the Wilson house, Gold is overwhelmed by the clutter and can’t believe the house looks this way in spite of two housekeepers and an aunt who helps with the girls. Wilson, on the other hand, calls Gold’s house a dollhouse is shocked that Gold still picks out her kids’ clothes and leaves hardly any time for them to relax and have fun.
Carnie isn’t an on time person and is worried about handling the four children. She has no idea what to do since she doesn’t handle the daily household duties. Dressing the children proves challenging – she dresses the seven year old in a Santa shirt. Yikes.
Meanwhile, Tracy is in a state of shock at the amount of help that Carnie has and the lack of involvement from Carnie’s husband Rob. The first day that Tracy arrives, Rob doesn’t join the family for dinner. He works late into the night and misses the children’s bed time.
Tracy is left alone and is actually bored. The distant husband is bothering Tracy. Carnie is having a problem with the regimented schedule.
And then they switch rules. Yikes.
Tracy begins by giving the help off for the day. Second rule – eating together as a family. Third Rule – Rob should drive Lola to school. Rob is having a problem with the rules. When Rob is caught playing music in the morning – Tracy is not happy. Tracy sees a real disconnect between Rob and the family. When he sits down for family dinner, his daughter spends the entire meal crying. Frustrating for Rob. Rob is glad he spent time with the family.
Carnie’s first rule is “No Rules”. The oldest boys is skeptical because he has been doing the same thing since he is a little kid and doesn’t know what to do. Second rule – dress however you want. There will be no swim lessons, drum lessons or anything – all play time for the day. Third rule – no laundry today. Go crazy. Yelling, screaming, farting all day. Carnie allows them to eat outside of the kitchen. Things are really crazy over there. Carnie tells Roby she is ghost of fun and not to bother her. With Roby at work, Carnie brings the boys to the lake where they have silly string fights and even allows them to spray color their hair. Roby expresses to Carnie how much he misses Tracy and how much he loves her.
At the end of the week, the two couples will meet for the first time. In a deeply honest and highly-charged exchange of views, both couples will make a frank assessment of each other and talk about what they’ve learned from the experience. In the process, all will discover what it would be like to live a life radically different from their own.
Tracy suggest that Rob tell Carnie where he is during the day. Rob doesn’t like that. Meanwhile, Carnie said she felt like she was just put to work and the whip was slapped across her ass and she never looked at the clock more in her entire life.
Carnie realizes that a connection between her and Rob is missing and is very upset about it.
You can see the love between Tracy and her husband. It is nice to watch.
