The Avengers is an American superhero film produced by Marvel Studios based on the Marvel Comics superhero team of the same name, created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby. This is the sixth installment in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, following the events of Captain America: The First Avenger.
The film stars returning actors Robert Downey, Jr., Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Tom Hiddleston, Scarlett Johannson, Jeremy Renner and Samuel L. Jackson, who have all appeared in the previous films, as well as Mark Ruffalo, taking up role of Dr. Bruce Banner a.k.a. the Incredible Hulk following the breakdown of negotiations between Marvel and Edward Norton.
The premise of this film is a war with the future of Earth hanging in the balance, waged between exiled Norse God Loki (Hiddleston), who has escaped through a portal generated from the Tesseract, an energy source of unknown potential, and the team of Superheros, The Avengers, assembled by Nick Fury (Jackson) of S.H.I.E.L.D.
