While Justin Timberlake arguably stole the show at last Sunday’s Video Music Awards, Miley Cyrus did her part to make her performance…uh…memorable, but Timberlake is doing his best to stick up for the ex-Disney star.
When she wasn’t sticking her tongue out or grinding up on Robin Thicke, Cyrus was having her way with a foam finger, but Timberlake says will should just back off:
“It’s the VMAs, what did you guys expect? Timberlake said on an interview with Fresh 102.7.
Timberlake goes on the say that he liked Cyrus’s performance “a lot” and that Cyrus is “letting everyone know that she’s growing up. I just think it’s the VMAs. It’s not like she did it at the Grammys. Let her do her thing, you know?”
Billy Ray Cyrus, after tweeting about world peace and other things that didn’t really have to do with his daughter’s performance, actually commented on Cyrus’s baffling performance to Entertainment Tonight:
“She’s still my little girl, and I’m still her dad, regardless of how this circus we call show business plays out. I love her unconditionally, and that will never change.”
In other words he despised it and will continue to pray for her soul.
Timberlake does have a point that it is not as if it was the Grammy’s, and it probably would have been even more awkward if Cyrus did that after, say, Adele. But also remember that Timberlake did witness his ex, Britney Spears, make-out with Madonna at the 2003 VMAs so everything else seems tamed to him.
What do you think of Timberlake’s comments? Do you agree with him?
