For the handful of you excited for American Idol to return for a season 13, you should know that Randy Jackson may return to the singing competition as a mentor and not a judge.
According to Deadline, the current mentor, Jimmy Lovine, is set to leave the show after offering pretty bad advice to contestants for three seasons. A source states that producers of the show are looking at Jackson to replace Lovine and become the new mentor.
Idol only has Keith Urban confirmed to be a judge in the new season, but Jennifer Lopez may soon follow suite. If Jackson is not the third and final judge, it would be interesting to see him as a mentor, but like Lovine, his advice and take on music is severely outdated. As much as it pains me to say this, someone even as Will.i.am would probably be a solid choice to offer some advice as he at least tries to stay current.
Idol desperately needs to bring in some interesting, current people to shake up their ratings since The Voice has a stranglehold on the singing competitions.
What do you think of the idea of Jackson as a mentor?
