Ever since Jake Gyllenhaal played a gay cowboy in 2005′s Brokeback Mountain, opposite the late Heath Ledger, some people still can’t believe the actor is actually straight.
Which is fine by Jake because the handsome leading man appears to have no qualms when it comes to the “is he, isn’t he, ‘gay’ question”. During a recent visit to Inside the Actors Studio, the 32-year-old Oscar nominated actor sat down with host James Lipton, and revealed what flatters him most.
When it comes to the End of Watch star’s sexuality, the actor reveals being asked if he’s gay is actually a “huge compliment.” It seems Jake won over more than just the critics with his performance in the undeniable love story that is Brokeback Mountain- which is what caused rumors to swirl in the first place.
Gyllenhaal’s cool and collected reaction mimics that of fellow actor James Franco, who’s sexuality has also come under fire. While promoting his new film Child of God in Toronto this week, a reporter asked him about the rumors of him being gay. The always cool James Franco responded, “I wish I was gay.”
It’s great to see people in the public eye not shying away from these questions and/or not taking offense. Just goes to show you how much more tolerant we are becoming of everyone’s differences.
Gyllenhaal’s next role is as a detective, in the crime thriller Prisoners, due out September 20.
