While tons of fans, mainly nerds and super-nerds, have chimed in with their mostly negative opinions on Ben Affleck playing Batman in the Man of Steel sequel, Affleck himself is now saying that he hesitated at the thought of playing Batman at first.
In an interview with Al Norton for 411Mania.com, Affleck reveals what his initial thought was when he was first approached to play the legendary comic book here:
“Initially, I was reluctant, as I felt I didn’t fit the traditional mold, but once Zack [Snyder] showed me the concept, and that it would be both different from the great movies that Chris [Nolan] and Christian [Bale] made, but still in keeping with tradition, I was excited. Doing something different and new is always tricky and part of the thrill and the risk is that initially it confounds expectations. The truth is, it’s the movie and the execution of it is what all the actors depend on and I believe in Zack’s vision.”
Affleck should have probably been reluctant to play Daredevil as we all know how that turned out, but it is encouraging to hear that Affleck was swayed after seeing the concept, as we hope that now being an award winning director he will have higher standards in his film decisions.
I am sure there are still people who will despise Affleck for playing Batman but perhaps we should wait until the movie is actually released before writing Affleck hate mail and/or crying heavily in the corner while wearing our Batman costumes.
What do you think of Affleck’s comments? Are you hopeful for this film?
