Dancing With the Stars 2014 Recap 4/7/14 Switch Up – Week 4
Contestants: Candace and Tony
Dance: Quickstep – watch the video
Judges’ Comments: Len kicked the night off by saying that “getting a new partner is like an itchy blanket – it does the job but it can be uncomfortable at times.” He called the performance “hair raising,” and said it was “well done.” Julianne Hough, who is guest-judging this week, said that she felt the “body contact was a bit too gapped,” but she also thought they did a great job. Bruno said that he wasn’t expecting this – “it was like a quickstep danced with the sex pistols.” He did caution the couple to watch their footwork. Carrie Ann said that it’s “very hard to master that hold,” and while they missed out on that, it was the only thing lacking.
Scores: Carrie Ann – 7, Len – 7, Julianne – 7, Bruno – 7 = 28/30.
Contestants: James and Cheryl – watch video performance
Judges’ Comments: Julianne said that James is “the total package” and that he has “passion and everything.” She did give him one note, saying he’s “a little squatty” and that he likes to stick his butt out while dancing. Bruno said that Cheryl is a girl that “can get you into trouble,” but he delivered a “mean tango.” Carrie Ann said that “it wasn’t at all, a switch up – they looked perfect together.” Len finished it up saying that it was “burning hot.”
Scores: Carrie Ann – 9, Len – 8, Julianne – 9, Bruno – 9 = 35/40.
Contestants: Drew and Whitney – Watch Video
Dance: Cha Cha Cha
Judges’ Comments: Bruno said the performance was “somewhere between Elvis Presley and Liberachi, but it was brilliant.” Carrie Ann said that there’s “a kick in Drew’s step tonight” and he “killed it.” Len said that Drew “was really out there,” and he hasn’t seen someone have that much fun dancing since he was a teenager. Julianne wrapped it up saying that “this was Drew’s turning point” and that Drew completely owned the Cha Cha.
Scores: Carrie Ann – 8, Len – 8, Julianne – 9, Bruno – 8 = 33/40.
Contestants: Danica and Maks – Watch Video
Judges’ Comments: Carrie Ann said she thought it was great, although she felt the timing was a bit off and that Danica was a beat ahead of Maks. Len said there was “a little too much goofing off,” but it was a good jive. Julianne said she agrees with Carrie Ann and Len, and she felt that Maks might have phoned it in a bit. Bruno said that he thought it was a good performance over all.
Scores: Carrie Ann – 8, Len – 8, Julianne – 8, Bruno – 8 = 32/40.
Contestants: Charlie and Peta – Watch Video
Judges’ Comments: Len said that nothing about it was a rumba because “there was no hip action,” while Julianne said that it was good, but Charlie needs to focus more on being on the balls of his feet. Bruno said he loved the “grand and heroic sweep.” Bruno said it was good, though Carrie Ann agreed that it might not have exactly been a rumba.
Scores: Carrie Ann – 8, Len – 9, Julianne – 9, Bruno – 9 = 35/40.
