Interview: Jamie Otis from Married at First Sight Talks Doug, Marriage, Babies
Besides the curiosity of seeing someone getting married to a complete stranger, one of the many reasons viewers tuned into the reality docu-series, Married at First Sight, was Jamie Otis. The beautiful, tough as nails woman, who was a contestant on The Bachelor (something she would like us all to forget), had an extremely rough childhood and was now looking for her prince charming. Would she succeed and ‘live happily ever after?’
We watched Jamie meet Doug Hehner, a man she viewed more as a frog than her prince when she first met him. We rooted for Doug, as he patiently waited for this beautiful woman to give him a chance. Thankfully, Otis gave Hehner a chance and after viewing the series, Married at First Sight for a mere six weeks, we witnessed Hehner become Otis’ knight in shining armor. We have been following the couple and rooting for them to ‘live happily ever after.’ As the couple approaches their first year together, a new series, Married at First Sight: The First Year will begin on Tuesday, January 13, 2015.

When Jamie was asked to appear on Married at First Sight, she thought it was a love experiment. The casting people explained there was a psychologist, a sex expert and other professionals who were going to analyze her, find the perfect match for her and help her date this person. This is what Jamie thought she needed in order to have a successful relationship.
At the final casting call it was revealed it was more than a love experiment, and they were actually going to get married. At this point, half of the room got up and walked out. Jamie decided to stay, because she didn’t want to be rude, while also thinking how crazy this was. Each of the experts spoke and explained it was not a reality series, but a docu-series. In other words, there was not going to be the ‘reality drama’ we have all come to expect. The experts were sincere, real and professional and they too were laying a lot on the line by appearing on the show. They were risking their careers. After viewing the Denmark version of the show, Jamie was all in. The hopeless romantic, who was looking for both her prince and her happily ever after, decided to give the show and marriage a chance.
Jamie spoke about the show, saying it was one of the most stressful times in her life. Of course, we discussed her initial reaction to meeting Doug,
