Video: Neil Patrick Harris Opening Monologue at 87th Oscars
Neil Patrick Harris opened the 87th Academy Awards held at the Dolby Theater in Hollywood, California on February 22, 2015.
The Oscar host opened the show by telling the audience, “We honor tonight’s best and whitest – I mean brightest,” before breaking into song. The song was all about ‘moving pictures.’ The song included words such as, “No one’s drunk and bitter yet ’cause no one has lost,” as Harris sang and the camera flashed to nominee Benedict Cumberbatch drinking from a flask.
During his performance, Neil Patrick Harris was joined by Anna Kendrick and interrupted by Jack Black, who then gave them a taste of what they sounded like. Neil stopped Jack’s song to continue his song about ‘moving pictures.’
The song also saluted Field of Dreams, Ghost, The Avengers, Star Wars and Ricky Business, among others, complete with a line that saluted “all the tension between Ben [Affleck] and Matt [Damon]” in Good Will Hunting, and listed this year’s nominees.
We have to ask do you prefer an intro in song or a comedienne who makes us and the actors laugh?
Following Neil Patrick Harris’ song he welcomed all of the nominees and the 8 picture nominees, along with the composers and the set designers. He also explained the Oscars are for the viewers, who are all inspired by the movies.
Outside of the song, Harris pointed out the highest-grossing hit movie of 2014, the American Sniper otherwise known as the “Oprah” of the year’s nominees, and made fun of his own movie choices when he said the night was about falling in love with moving pictures again. Not necessarily his movie choices – Smurfs 2.
