Emma Watson Talks Gender Equality on International Women’s Day
Emma Watson is hosting a Q&A on Facebook today, March 8, 2015 in honor of International Women’s Day.
Watson is joining forces with the gender-equality organization HeforShe, where the event will be live-streamed on Facebook. The topic of discussion is gender equality and Watson will answer questions that include the hashtag #HeForShe on Facebook.
Watson, who is the U.N. Women Goodwill Ambassador, caused the hashtag #HeforShe to go viral during a speech at the United Nations in September, where she said,
“Both men and women should feel free to be sensitive. Both men and women should feel free to be strong. It is time that we all perceive gender on a spectrum, instead of two sets of opposing ideals.”
Men and boys across the world have since joined the campaign, including U.S. President Barack Obama, and actors Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Matt Damon. Another supporter of Gender Equality is Paul Bettany, who was honored during a luncheon at the United Nations with a Humanitarian Award.
Watson invited everyone to join her live on Facebook when she posted the following:
“I hope you’ll join me on Sunday 8th of March at 1PM NYC/5PM London-time for a conversation about He For She and Gender Equality, live on Facebook. If you’re in London and would like to be there in person, tell me how you are making a personal impact to advance gender equality! Em x”
Emma Watson is best known for her role as Hermione Granger in the Harry Potter series. Since Harry Potter, Watson has starred in a number of films including, My Week With Marilyn, The Perks of Being a Wallflower and Noah. Watson will be starring in the live-action adaptation of Disney’s version of the classic Beauty and the Beast, a tale of a cursed prince and a beautiful young woman who helps him break the spell, set to be released in 2016.
