Paul Bettany, Ron Howard, Jennifer Connelly Attend Luncheon at United Nations
Actor Paul Bettany attended a luncheon at the United Nations Headquarters in New York City in his honor on March 6, 2015.
The UN Women for Peace Association (UNWFPA) gave their annual awards this year to Actor/Director Paul Bettany, Chairman and CEO of The Kraft Group Robert Kraft, and Bond No. 9. The Awards Luncheon ceremony celebrating International Women’s Day.
Paul Bettany has appeared in a number of movies, including A Beautiful Mind and The Da Vinci Code, directed by Ron Howard. Howard introduced Bettany, the recipient of the UNWFPA’s Humanitarian Award, telling the audience a story of Paul noticing a homeless man, who stayed near his home in New York. Bettany took note that this man kept a cart filled with classic books and more of an education than millions of girls worldwide. Paul also noticed the man had wasn’t in his usual spot following Hurricane Sandy. And so came the idea for Paul’s movie, Shelter. Starring his beautiful wife, Jennifer Connelly,the movie is a heart wrenching story of a beautiful homeless woman who meets a homeless man and fall in love. Shelter explores how they got there, and as we learn about their pasts we realize they need each other to build a future. Howard also pointed out that Bettany will not stop with this movie and will continue his work until young girls and women everywhere are treated with dignity and respect.
Also in attendance was Jennifer Connelly, Bettany’s wife, along with AnnaLynne McCord, Miss USA, Rita Cosby, Richard Lui, Somaly Mam, and Anna Strasberg.
Jackie Wilson, an American Idol finalist, performed the debut of her new song, Break the Chain, an end-violence against women song.
Participant in the ceremony also included UN officials and ambassadors, as well as a slew of philanthropists, celebrities, and members of the media.
