Ryan Reynolds Confirms Daughter’s Name!

By on March 20, 2015

Ryan Reynolds and wife Blake Lively have been super secretive since the birth of their first child, a baby girl. They did not reveal their daughter’s name and that left people speculating as to what it could be. For a while, it was presumed that they had named their bundle of joy Violet but this morning, Reynolds sat down with host Willie Geist on “The Today Show” to finally come clean!

Reynolds started by joking with Geist after the host suggested that they just “call her Anna at least—short for Anaconda?” To that, Reynolds replied: “That is not the child’s name. It’s Butternut Summersquash.” We have heard odder names in Hollywood like Moxy Crimefighter (daughter of Penn Jillette) and Pilot Inspector (Jason Lee). It took some pushing and prying but eventually, the new and proud father came clean as to what he and Lively named her.

“It’s James. Everyone knows.” Well, now everyone knows. So, what took so long for Lively and Reynolds to share the name of their baby girl who is “allergic to sleep?” “I didn’t want to be the first guy screaming it out to the media. Because as we know, little girls turn into teenage girls and little teenage girls sometimes scan through the archives and go, ‘Why did you do that?'”

Now that we know what her name is, when will we see a photo of the genetically blessed James? Hopefully soon.

Reynolds’ ex-wife Scarlett Johannson is equally as secretive. She was not shy about what she and husband Romain Dauriac named her daughter, Rose Dorothy. What she was secretive about was the fact that she and Dauriac had been married since last October, a fact that was hidden for several months. Maybe now we know why Reynolds and Johannson got together: they like to keep secrets. That could also be why they got divorced. Congratulations to all parties on their new little families!
