Grey’s Anatomy Says Good Bye to Derek Shepherd – Patrick Dempsey
Good Bye to Derek Shepherd. Grey’s Anatomy’s Patrick Dempsey said his final farewell on the latest episode of Grey’s Anatomy.
While Patrick Dempsey and Ellen Pompeo both signed two-year deals in January 2014 that should have kept the on air couple on the long running television series into the 2015-16 season. Unfortunately, it seems that Dempsey must have changed his mind and we have seen the last of Derek Shepherd.
After Derek saves the lives of four people in a car accident, his car is hit by an oncoming truck. We watch the episode in anticipation, hoping Derek will live and be saved. Instead we hear Dr. Shepherd talk to himself and say the words we don’t want to hear, just before being rushed into surgery,
“I’m going to die because these people aren’t properly trained.”
Ironically, Derek has a head injury and the neurosurgeon who was called in to work on him took an hour and a half to get to the operating room. Due to the medical staff being inept, Derek Shepherd is brain dead.
Meredith Grey is faced with the decision of removing Derek from life support or moving him to a long term health care facility. As a doctor, she knows what she needs to do and decides to take Derek off of life support.
When Meredith walks out of the hospital she meets up with the doctor who took care of him in the emergency room. She apologizes to Meredith for not being a ‘good enough’ doctor to keep him alive. Meredith agrees with her about not being good enough. She tells her to learn from this and better herself to be better next time.
It’s sad watching Derek Shepherd die. It is seriously the end of an era. After 11 seasons on Grey’s Anatomy of watching Derek and Meredith, we will only be watching Meredith.
Anyone else broken hearted?
