Nashville Recap 4/22/15 Season 3 Episode 19: “The Storm Has Begun”
On tonight’s episode of Nashville, the gang all gathers at Teddy’s auction. Rayna has to cut her time at the auction short when Deacon gets a call that he has a liver match. He heads to the hospital and preps for his surgery. A lot of the episode revolves around the interaction between Juliette and both old and new characters. The new characters she interacts with in this episode is Jade, the pop star diva played by The Voice’s Christina Aguilera. It’s weird to see Christina in this world since I don’t associate her with country music like at all. However, she gets props for fitting into this role surprisingly well. Her character has a past with Jeff, as we already established on last week’s episode of Nashville. This episode sees her forming a new relationship with Luke Wheeler. She definitely has more obvious chemistry with Luke than she does with Jeff.
As shown in the preview, the main focus of the episode, besides the whole Deacon liver transplant, is the rivalry between Jade and Juliette. Juliette in general is just not reacting well to the whole baby thing. She sees how good Avery is with the baby and knows that she doesn’t have that natural parenting gift that he so clearly has. I think she feels left out of his world and like she doesn’t belong. Part of Juliette is still extremely selfish and until she lets go of that, she won’t be able to be a truly attentive mom. I think she’s worried too much about her career instead of being a parent but hey, whatever works for her.
As soon as Deacon gets to the hospital, trouble strikes. The doctor finds that he has a fever and he isn’t a good candidate if he has a fever or illness. Basically, there’s just more drama thrown in to the whole storyline with Deacon. It’d be too easy for him to just get the liver with no further complications. Deacon is then given an antibiotic to help with his fever and it then breaks and he’s able to go into surgery properly. Next thing we know, Scarlett’s boyfriend (aka the doctor) tells Rayna, Maddie, and Scarlett that there was a big problem with the transplant. They wake Deacon up and we find out that they didn’t go through with the surgery because they found cancer cells on the liver he was supposed to receive. Well, more drama is definitely on the horizon. When will this whole battle with Deacon end? He and Rayna just need to be happy together already.
Will struggles with his sexuality and his desire to be with Kevin in public. Right now, he’s fine with keeping it a secret but Kevin, who has no problem with the public knowing that he’s gay wants to be with Will publically as well. The two go back and forth as Kevin brings another guy to the auction and basically rubs it in Will’s face. Moral of this storyline is that Will is certainly growing up. By the end of the episode, he admits to Kevin how jealous he was of the date he brought and that he’s never felt this way about anyone. This is true, Will has never been in a committed relationship with a guy, so it’s a big thing that he and Kevin are getting relatively serious in Will’s book.
