Was Patrick Dempsey Fired From Grey’s Anatomy – That’s Why He Was Killed Off?
Patrick Dempsey left Grey’s Anatomy very suddenly. His character, Derek Shepherd was killed off when his car was hit by a truck. Fans screamed, cried and begged for the return of Dr. Derek Shepherd. They questioned the show’s creator, Shonda Rhimes and asked why, why would Rhimes kill off the beloved Dr. Shepherd. His character, along with his wife’s character, Dr. Meredith Grey, they gave us hope. Hope that love can conquer all. Hope that there is that one true love out there for us to find.
It turns out that Rhimes may not have been given a choice. While Patrick Dempsey signed a two year contract, no one is let out of an acting contract early – just because they no longer feel like working. Dempsey made it clear there was no fan fare when he left. According to an interview with EW, he said this about his last day of work,
“It was very quiet. It was very poetic, I got in my car, got in rush hour traffic, and two hours later I was home.”
There was no good bye party. No huge send off. No sad to see you go party. Just a typical day. He did his scene and left to return to his home.
According to Radar Online, Dempsey wanted out and acted like he wanted out. After working on the hit series for more than 10 years, the actor showed up late for his call time and forgot his lines. Shonda warned him and gave him time off to think about what he was doing. That explains his absence this season of Grey’s Anatomy. When he returned to work, it was more of the same and as a result he was fired.
Dempsey had a lot going on his life this year. He and his wife announced they were getting divorced. While Shonda Rhimes released a statement about his departure and Ellen Pompeo is virtually begging viewers to come back and see how Meredith Gray handles the death of her beloved husband, time will tell if Grey’s Anatomy could make it with another major character leaving the show. Between Izzy, George, Christina, Denny, McDreamy and McSteamy leaving Grey’s Anatomy over the years, will this be the straw that broke the camel’s back. Will this be the end of Grey’s Anatomy?
