Taylor Swift Acceptance Speech for Milestone Award at Country Music Awards
Taylor Swift won the Milestone Award at the 50th Country Music Awards held on April 19, 2015. Presenting the Milestone Award to Swift was her mother, Andrea, who said she watched this tangled hair little girl, growing up on their farm, full of imagination and creativity. Ever since then, her favorite thing in the world to do has been to write a song, tell a story play the guitar or piano and she has seen those things carry through all of her experiences.
Every once in a while, her dad, her brother or I find ourselves to be the subjects of those songs. Sometimes, we are merely the inspiration. For many years I was her constant companion. I witnessed a young girl with very few friends become a young woman with many, learning to stand up for herself and the things she believes in. Being brave enough to explore her musical curiosity, having a voice against those who hate and like many of you out there tonight with children of your own, I am a very proud mom.

Swift’s mom thanked the fans for loving Taylor the way she loved her. Taylor then came on stage to accept the award saying,
“Somebody once told me you see who a person is when you give them news they weren’t expecting,”
Taylor was referring to her announcement that she was giving up country music to explore pop music and other genres. She expressed her happiness and being “grateful” she learned to write music in a town, called Nashville. She said she learned from country music how to treat others with kindness and respect, leading her to the artist she is today.
Taylor’s mom, Andrea was recently diagnosed with cancer. Taylor released a statement telling her fans about it because her mom may not be at as many shows for her 1989 tour saying, “She’s got an important battle to fight. Thank you for caring about my family so much that she would want me to share this information with you.”
