Fox Renews American Idol – What Else Was Renewed for 2015/2016 TV Season
Fox Television is preparing the viewers of American Idol for the end of the first music reality show following its 15th season on television. Prior to Fox’s Upfronts, where it announces all the shows we will be watching come the Fall of 2015/2016, the powers that be revealed the news we were all wondering – would American Idol return for another season?
The show began in 2002, with judges Paula Abdul, Randy Jackson and Simon Cowell. The show was originally hosted Ryan Seacrest and comedian Brian Dunkleman, with Seacrest remaining as the solo host for the remainder of the seasons. For seven seasons, the judges remained the same with the ninth season introducing Kara DioGuardi as the fourth judge. DioGuardi remained on the show for two seasons.
Paula Abdul left the show before the 9th season following salary negotiation talks falling flat and was replaced by Ellen DeGeneres for one season. Simon Cowell left before season 10 and was replaced by Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler. Lopez and Tyler left after two seasons, with Lopez returning following a disastrous season with Mariah Carey, Nicki Minaj and Keith Urban judging for one season, along with Randy Jackson in season 12. Both Carey and Minaj left after one season,at the same time that Randy Jackson announced that he would depart the show after twelve seasons as a judge, but would return as a mentor.
Keith Urban remained following Minaj and Carey’s departure and was joined by returning judge Jennifer Lopez and former mentor Harry Connick, Jr. Lopez, Urban and Connick, Jr. all returned as judges for the show’s fourteenth season and will remain for the 15th season.
American Idol has launched many successful careers including; Kelly Clarkson, Carrie Underwood, Daughtry, Jennifer Hudson, Adam Lambert, Jordin Sparks and many more well known musicians. Clarkson alone has won numerous awards including Billboard Awards, a Grammy and a Country Music Award.
The 15th season of American Idol will be fun to watch as FOX stated the farewell will “pay tribute to the past 14 seasons.” That will mean lots of guests, including the alumni and winners from the first 14 seasons of the hit show.
