“Goonies” Star Mary Ellen Trainor Passes Away!
“Heyyyyy yoooooouuuuu guyyyyyssss!!” That may be one of the most iconic lines from the eighties movie “The Goonies” but today, we deliver some sad news from the movie that tickled our hearts. Star Mary Ellen Trainor has passed away at the age of sixty-two on May 20th but we are just learning the news now. In “The Goonies,” she played Mikey and Brand’s mother, Irene Walsh and was also a featured player in the “Lethal Weapon” movies. It was Lucasfilm President, Kathleen Kennedy, who made the announcement today regarding Trainor’s passing. The actress was also married to Robert Zemeckis at one time and went on to play a part in one of the “Back to the Future” films starring Michael J. Fox and Christopher Lloyd.
The cause of death was revealed as complications from pancreatic cancer and this is a sad day for all those who knew and loved her. Now, we are getting conflicted death dates. From “EW,” they have listed it as May 20th while Wikipedia has listed her date of death as today but either way, she leaves behind a son, Alexander, with whom she had with Zemeckis. Most recently, she appeared in 2003’s “Freaky Friday” alongside Lindsay Lohan and 2007’s “Cake: A Wedding Story.” We have not heard much from her since then and that could be do to her illness. We are waiting for some of the cast of her movies like Mel Gibson and Corey Feldman to speak out but we do not know if that will happen.
We will keep our eyes peeled for anything that we may see on Twitter and/or Instagram. The best part about Mary Ellen Trainor is that she starred in some of the most brilliant films that will continue to live on which means her work as an actress will never die. She was also in “Die Hard” so I am curious if Bruce Willis will come out and speak as well. In any case, we wish her family all the best during this very difficult time.
