Kanye West Tells Glastonbury Crowd He’s Biggest Rock Star in the World
Kanye West performed at a British music festival over the weekend telling the crowd that he was the greatest rock star in the world despite an uproar on social media from Glastonbury fans upset that he was headlining the concert.
Despite the complaints, Kanye performed his set telling the crowd, “I’m going to say this tonight because 20 years from now, 30 years from now, 40 years from now, I might not be able to say it, but I can say it tonight…You are now watching the greatest living rockstar on the planet.”
Before declaring himself the greatest he was “Kanye’d” by British comedian Lee Nelson who jumped up on the stage a minute into Kanye’s set wearing a tee shirt that said “Lee-Zus,” a parody of Kanye’s self-titled album and nickname. He later Tweeted, “I Kanye’d Kanye. That was for you @taylorswift13 #Leezus.”
Kanye was playing Black Skinhead at the time and attempted to go on before stopping and restarting. He later made his declaration, something not everyone believed to be accurate.
The Who took the stage the next night and legendary guitarist Pete Townshend had his own announcement for the Glastonbury crowd. Making light of Kanye’s declaration, Townshend told the crowd, “We’re going to send you home now with a rebellious, ‘Oh yeah, who’s the biggest rock star in the world?'” Townshend then launched into a spectacular guitar solo.
Kanye is almost as famous for his giant ego as he is for his music career and marriage to Kim Kardashian. The reality star, pregnant with the couple’s second child, joined him in Glastonbury for the show calling it the “Craziest show ever!!!!” in an Instagram post.
Despite his giant ego, the rapper tends to shy away from the cameras and had refused to participate in his wife’s reality show Keeping Up With the Kardashians though his reluctance to get in front of the cameras hasn’t stopped him from jumping on stage to snatch Taylor Swift’s award or from declaring him the greatest rock star ever. He almost walked on stage when Beck recently beat out Beyonce declaring that the award should go to a real musician. He has since apologized for that statement acknowledging Beck’s talent.
