Caitlyn Jenner Won’t Walk ESPY Awards Red Carpet or Speak to Press
Caitlyn Jenner will not be walking the red carpet at the ESPY Awards when she goes to pick up her Arthur Ashe Courage Award on Wednesday. She also will not be doing any press after the show, something recipients normally do. It is also unclear if she will even be making any speech while accepting the award despite reports that all ten of her children were going to accompany her onstage.
Since announcing her transition in an interview with Diane Sawyer, Caitlyn has been seen in public often even attending an LGBT function in NYC during the Gay Pride Parade. Hardly a shrinking violet since coming out she was also seen attending a Broadway play leaving questions as to why she’d skip the red carpet at an event that is honoring her.
Her ex-wife may have taught her a few tricks when it comes to the media because it seems to be right out of Kris Jenner’s playbook. Kris did not appear on Sawyer’s interview nor did she give a statement. She kept the news very close to the vest until after the interview before doing her own two-part special Keeping Up With the Kardashians: About Bruce.
It looks like a lesson well learned since Caitlyn will have her I Am Cait crew trailing her at the ESPY Awards as they have been doing for months while filming her docuseries for E!. It would seem she is saving it all for her own show and giving only small glimpses until then. After all, why answer questions at the ESPN press conference when you can get people to tune in for your show?
Her docuseries, airing at then end of July, will follow her life as she transitioned to Caitlyn. Her kids have all been supportive with Kylie and Kendall worried that people will be mean to her. Kim Kardashian was one of her earlier supporters after husband Kanye West told her he couldn’t imagine not being able to live life as himself. Khloe Kardashian had the most trouble struggling with the transition worrying about losing Bruce, while Kourtney’s worries were about how it would affect her three children.
Caitlyn’s son Brody has been very supportive telling the press recently that he did not have a great relationship with Bruce but is enjoying an improved relationship with Caitlyn. Brody has often bristled when it comes to the Kardashian family and expressed resentment towards step-mom Kris for what he feels was her part after his parents divorced. He now says they don’t speak at all.
In Caitlyn’s Vanity Fair interview she claimed Kris was aware that she was transgender for a long time, something Kris adamantly denied. Kris has voiced support though she has also acknowledged struggling with Caitlyn’s transition after a 25 year marriage wondering why, if she wanted to be Caitlyn she still married and had kids.
There was controversy over Caitlyn being awarded the Courage Award with some, including Bristol Palin, believing there were more worthy recipients so it is surprising that Caitlyn wouldn’t at least be doing the red carpet.
Is Caitlyn Jenner skipping the red carpet to save it all for her docuseries? Should she be doing interviews after the show? What do you think? Let us know here at Haveuheard.
