Donald Trump Gets Fired Again – This Time by Macy’s
Donald Trump’s presidential run is not turning out the way he’d hoped. For a man who has spent several seasons telling celebrities, “You’re Fired,” he is now on the receiving end of that famous phrase. While he has never been known for his delicate way of putting things, his recent comments on illegal immigrants has created a firestorm.
He announced that he was going to run on June 16 and was being taken seriously as a candidate with many feeling he wouldn’t get the Republican nomination but that he would force some real conversations about issues. The Donald got a little too real when he talked about building borders and calling Mexican immigrants “killers and rapists” and blaming them for bringing in drugs.
His comments went viral with many calling him a bigot. NBC released a statement calling his remarks “derogatory” and announcing they were severing ties. He was fired as host of the wildly popular Celebrity Apprentice. The Donald, never one to give in, disputed NBC’s version saying he told them first that he wasn’t returning.
Now Macy’s has jumped on the anti-Trump bandwagon after an online petition demanding they sever ties gained over 700,000 signatures. They released as statement saying:
We are disappointed and distressed by recent remarks about immigrants from Mexico. We do not believe the disparaging characterizations portray an accurate picture of the many Mexicans, Mexican Americans and Latinos who have made so many valuable contribution to the success of our nation. In light of statements made by Donald Trump, which are inconsistent with Macy’s values, we have decided to discontinue our rbuisness relationship with Mr. Trump and will phase-out the Trump menswear collection, which has been sold at Macy’s since 2004.
The man famous for The Art of the Deal responded to the Macy’s flap by claiming it was he who terminated the relationship. He released a statement on social media claiming Macy’s was succumbing to outside pressures:
The Donald is also suing Univision for dropping the Miss USA pageant saying they were contractually obligated to air it. NBC is also refusing to air the pageant in light of his comments. Talking about the contestants and the hard work they have put in to get to this pageant, he said, “What NBC and Univision did to these young women is disgraceful.”
His brusque way is loved by some and hated by others. Donald Trump running for president added some excitement to the presidential race though it remains to be seen if he will recover from his comments on immigration.
