Fox News Host Brian Kilmeade Wonders Why We’re Not Clearing Sharks From the Water
Fox & Friends co-host Brian Kilmeade put out some questionable theories when it comes to sharks making him fodder on social media. Shark attacks have been in the news lately, with attacks on North Carolina swimmers leaving vacationers on edge. It was the amazing video of pro surfer Mike Fanning successfully fighting off a shark during a competition in South Africa that had Kilmeade scratching his head.
Kilmeade seemed to believe that attacks on swimmers are more understandable than attacks on surfers, possibly because of the scary cameras shooting from overhead. He said:
I think that the most shocking thing is, after you hear about the six attacks in North Carolina, OK, these are just swimmers. But then when you see a champion surfer and you have a three-camera shoot and an overhead shot, say, “Oh my goodness, it could happen anywhere.”
He then wondered why sporting events don’t have a shark removal team adding:
You would think that they’d have a way of clearing the waters for a competition of this level. But I guess they don’t.
Of course that led to the social media bombardment with Twitter users calling him ignorant while others joked that he could become the “National Shark Clearer.” Others suggested building a “shark proof fence around America,” while another joked that humans taste just like chicken to the sharks.
It isn’t the first time Kilmeade’s words have come back to bite him. He was under fire last year after making jokes when Ray Rice knocked his then fiancee unconscious in an elevator. Telling viewers that the message was, “take the stairs,” he later made a half-hearted attempt to explain why his words were misunderstood.
His history goes further back. In 2009 he spoke about Americans “keep marrying other species and other ethnics,” when discussing research suggesting married people are less likely to suffer from Alzheimer’s disease. He caused Whoopi Goldberg and Joy Behar to storm off of The View after his controversial remarks about Muslims being terrorists. He later asked Fox meteorologist Maria Molina if she “grew up on tacos.”
It seems Kilmeade has gone from offending people to trying to rid the surfing world of those pesky sharks. Maybe there is a shark whisperer somewhere out there.
