Lea Michele is paying tribute to Cory Monteith on the second anniversary of his death. The actor famous for playing Finn Hudson on Glee died after drinking while also using heroin at the age of 31. He had sought help for his addictions only months earlier.

Where Lea was a seasoned Broadway actress, Cory came to the show with no singing experience and, like his character, grew musically often being paired with his onscreen love Lea who soon became his offscreen love as well.

The actor was open about his struggles with addiction as a teen and later checked himself into rehab a few months before his death. Lea reportedly worried about him visiting his childhood home in Canada and the influences that surrounded him there. Still it was a shock when the actor was found dead in his Vancouver hotel room.

His death shook the Glee cast and left Lea devastated. Creator Ryan Murphy held a celebration of life service for Cory before deciding to do a special tribute episode acknowledging his death and that of his character Finn.

Lea Michele struggled after his death before eventually moving on though she posted this message on Twitter clearly showing she has not forgotten him:

She posted the same photo on Instagram with the caption, “I know you would want us all laughing and smiling today.. So we think of you and remember all the laughter and joy we shared together. I hold you in my heart always and love and miss you so…” She ended the caption with a heart emoji.

Fans of the actor also took to social media to pay tribute. #2YearsWithoutCory was trending as fans flocked to the site to mourn him on the anniversary of his death.

Many remembered his smile while others posted memes of him and Lea, one even referencing an episode in which Finn said, “So I just wanted to make sure that whenever she feels lonely, she can look up at the sky, and no matter where I am, she can know that I’m looking down on her.”

On the second anniversary of Corey Monteith’s death, Lea Michele and his legion of fans are making sure he is remembered.
