Nicki Minaj Speaks Out About Taylor Swift Controversy on GMA – Says There is Funny Business Not Being Nominated for Video of the Year
Nicki Minaj appeared on Good Morning America to sing at their summer concert series in Central Park. With all the controversy surrounding Nicki Minaj and Taylor Swift, regarding Nicki not being nominated by the VMA’s for Video of the Year, Lara Spencer spoke with the singer before she performed to ask the hard hitting questions.
Nicki had tweeted,
“If I was a different “kind” of artist, Anaconda would be nominated for best choreo and vid of the year as well.”
Spencer asked Nicki to clear the air regarding the tweet where Minaj said,
“First of all I spoke to Taylor Swift yesterday on the phone. She apologized and said I didn’t understand the big picture of what you were talking about.”
Minaj made it clear that she and Taylor are all good and they spoke on the phone and laughed about it. Minaj clarified why she was upset about not being nominated for the VMA Video of the year saying she posted something on her Instagram account that showed the stats of other videos and there just seemed to be a little funny business going on. She stated, “Anaconda had such a huge cultural impact and on top of that we broke the Vevo record. I believe if it was one of the ‘pop girls’ there would have been many nominations for it. That’s all we were saying. It is what it is.”
The controversy began when Taylor weighed in on one of Nicki’s tweets where she spoke about the ‘slim bodies’ always being nominated. Nicki said,
“I think we have to have both images for the girls, we can’t have one type of body being glorified in the media because it just makes girls even more insecure than we already are.” She continued, “It takes a big person to do what Taylor did. Everyone sometimes speaks out of turn sometimes. I know I do.”
What do you think about what Nicki Minaj had to say about the Taylor Swift incident? Does she have a valid point? Why wasn’t Anaconda nominated for the Video of the Year?
