Seven Year Switch Series Premiere Recap 7/7/15 – ‘Switch Therapy’
Named after the famous saying, ‘The Seven Year Itch,’ there is a new series on FYI called the The Seven Year Switch. The Seven Year Switch is an eight-episode series in which married couples put their marriage on the line by switching places with a “new partner” for a couple weeks. It sounds a bit similar to Wife Swap but instead of switching for the fun of it, these couples are at a point in their relationship where ‘happily ever after,’ may not be the case.
According to FYI and the series creators, seven years marks a point in many marriages when couples find themselves restless and dissatisfied; and some even wonder what it would be like if they had picked a different spouse. “Seven Year Switch” will follow the journey of four couples who have hit a breaking point in their marriage. Each of the couples, who have not had children as of yet, will participate in an innovative experiment of switch therapy, in which they swap partners and partake in experimental marriages.
Two relationship experts will help guide the couples through the switch therapy process, as they adjust to living with an experimental spouse. Will their temporary partners be able to fill the void they’ve been yearning for, or will they discover that the grass isn’t always greener? At the end of the month-long experiment, each of the married couples will reunite and make the decision: to either part ways and divorce, or reaffirm their commitment and renew their vows.
This is similar to the reality show now in its second season on FYI, Married at First Sight, only these couples may just be throwing away a seven year relationship, instead of having just met at the altar. We will be watching and recapping the show so be sure to come back and see what happens when the couples relationships are put to the test.
Let’s meet the couples:
Rachel Farris & CW McGee
The couple met on an online dating website. The couple shares strong spiritual beliefs and value the importance of being organized. However, after three years of marriage as a seemingly happy and romantic couple, the relationship has turned stagnant and stale. With CW’s high powered corporate job, he is dedicated to his work and leaves no time to tend to Rachel’s wants and needs. Rachel on the other hand is more carefree and creative – working as a voice-over artist and singer/songwriter. These two are complete opposites when it comes to their careers and lifestyles. CW’s extreme work ethic also makes it difficult for the couple to spend time and have fun together like they used to. Their goal as a result of this experiment is to have a more peaceful and cohesive relationship, have better communication, devote more time and energy to each other’s needs and to once again enjoy their lives together.
