Former “American Idol” Competitor Constantine Maroulis Arrested For Domestic Violence
Constantine Maroulis is no one’s “American Idol” right now as he has been arrested for domestic violence. Maroulis, who appeared on season four of Idol and has been in several theater productions, was arrested after an altercation with longtime girlfriend Angel Reed. The arrest happened in New Jersey where the couple resides along with their four-year old daughter. TMZ was the first outlet to report the story after Angel claimed that Maroulis threw her to the ground and then proceeded to kick her. But now the story has turned into a case of he said/she said as Maroulis is claiming self-defense and that he was attempting to leave the property to protect both their daughter and himself.
He spoke with E! after the incident and let them know that he is the one who is the victim in this situation and he was the one who ended up bruised and hurt after the fight. “He did not throw her to the ground or kick her in the groin during this incident. He consequently left their home to protect himself and to diffuse the situation. Some time later, the local police came and arrested him for domestic abuse. He paid a small bail and was released.” Though Angel and her reps were contacted for a statement, it was Maroulis’ camp who continued with their statement: “Mr. Maroulis intends to defend himself vigorously, as well as protect his child, both in the court of law and, as necessary, in the court of public opinion and is confident that he will be completely vindicated when the truth is known. He thanks his family, friends, fans and supporters for their continued faith and trust in him during this challenging time and assures them that their belief in him is warranted.”
Maroulis is not the first contestant to get arrested. Jermaine Jones was kicked off of his season when it came to light that he had multiple arrests. And who can forget Corey Clark, who claimed that he had an intimate relationship with then-judge Paula Abdul but that was not all he had. He had a rap sheet that could have filled a song book. Okay, that is a tad dramatic but it just seemed to work. We wish the best for Constantine, Angel and their daughter and hope that a positive resolution can be found.
