First Openly Gay Football Player Michael Sam Leaving Football Due to Mental Health Issues
The first openly gay football player drafted to the NFL, Michael Sam, has announced he is leaving his current position with xxx to focus on his mental health.
Sam achieved international fame when he was drafted by the NFL last year by the St. Louis Rams. He was later cut by the Rams and picked up by the Dallas Cowboys for a short time. Sam then signed a two-year contract with the Montreal Alouttes, part of the Canadian Football League.
Announcing his leave on Twitter, Sam said:
“The last 12 months have been very difficult for me, to the point where I became concerned with my mental health. Because of this I am going to step away from the game at this time. I thank the Alouettes for this opportunity and hope to be back on the field soon. Thank you all for your understanding and support.”
Sam also participated in Dancing With the Stars, where he was eliminated along with his professional dance partner, Peta Murgatroyd.
Sam has not elaborated on the issues associated with his mental health. We are wishing him the best and hope he can return to his career soon.
