Rosie O’Donnell’s Daughter Goes to Court to Defend Man Her Mom Had Arrested
The man involved in the disappearance of Rosie O’Donnell’s daughter had his day in court today and his defense was bolstered by a surprise witness, Chelsea O’Donnell. Chelsea showed up to support Steven Sheerer, the 25-year-old man she was found with after running away from home.
Rosie sent out an SOS on social media asking for help finding her daughter. She claimed that Chelsea was suffering from an undisclosed mental illness and in need of her medication. The teen was found at the home of Sheerer and reportedly hid in the attic telling police she did not want to go home. Sheerer was arrested after Rosie gave police permission to go through the teen’s phone and it was and discovered that he had sent Chelsea nude pictures.
Chelsea waited until she was 18 a few days later before leaving home for good. Deanna Micoley, the woman who had given her up for adoption as a baby, traveled from Wisconsin to bring Chelsea home to live with her and her younger siblings. Rosie asked Chelsea not to go and then cut her off financially.
Sheerer’s attorney, Robert Tarver, planned on using a defense that blamed Tinder for incident. Tinder has a policy of separating users by age something Sheerer claimed was the reason he communicated with Chelsea. She backed that up telling a judge that she told Sheerer she was 19. According to his attorneys, “We presented the judge with certification from Chelsea O’Donnell, herself, indicating that she said to this guy, number 1, they communicated through Tinder, and she represented that she was 19 years old on Tinder.”
The attorneys added, “She verified she was 18 ow, but 17 at the time of contact. She verified how she met him–through Tinder–verified he didn’t know what age she was, and she never told him the truth on that.”
While the case will still be going to the grand jury, the judge did lift the order barring Sheerer from having contact with Chelsea. According to Tarver, Chelsea requested that the judge remove the no contact order saying, “She wants to be able to have a continued relationship with Mr. Sheerer.”
According to ETonline Sheerer’s mother was at court and received a hug from Chelsea after court was over. There is no word on whether or not she has been in contact with either Rosie O’Donnell or Rosie’s first wife, Kelli Carpenter, the woman who adopted Chelsea with Rosie.
