Sean Penn Sues Lee Daniels Over Comparison to Terrence Howard
Sean Penn is suing Lee Daniel’s after being compared to Terrence Howard. Penn has long been rumored to have physically abused Madonna during their tumultuous marriage and now he’s setting the record straight. He was never arrested and claims that his ex-wives, Madonna included, will verify that he is not guilty of domestic violence.
The trouble started when Daniels was speaking about his Empire star, Terrence Howard and the heat he has taken in the media for his behavior. Most recently he admitted in an interview that he has struck women.
Daniels defended Howard in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter in which he said, “Terrence ain’t done nothing different than Marlon Brando or Sean Pean, and all of a sudden he’s some f—in’ demon. That’s a sign of the time, of race, or where we are right now in America.”
Penn filed a lawsuit in New York Supreme Court calling himself “one of this generation’s most highly-acclaimed and greatest artists and humanitarians.” In the papers he contends that due to his status as a public figure he “has been the subject of scandalous, scurrilous, and baseless attacks. But Penn, like any citizen, has a right to defend himself and will no longer tolerate the reckless and malicious behavior of others, who seek to aggrandize themselves or their projects at his expense.”
Calling Daniels’ statements “egregious” Penn “seems to condone Howard’s reported misconduct,” while citing Howard’s own admission to physically abusing women.
Penn is upset that Daniels “falsely equates Penn with Howard,” and states in his lawsuit that, “Penn, (unlike Howard) has never been arrested, much less convicted, for domestic violence, as his ex-wives (including Madonna) would confirm and attest.”
Often known as one of Hollywood’s biggest hotheads, Penn has never addressed the rumors that he was violent towards Madonna during their marriage. While he had been arrested for attacking the paparazzi, he and the singer have remained close long after both remarried and divorced a second time.
Penn was recently seen at Madonna’s concert with his daughter, Dylan, who met her dad’s ex for the first time. Penn was seen smiling as Madonna sang True Blue, a song written for him.
Daniels’ defense of Howard is in poor taste considering that his Empire star has a long history of being accused of assault, and with the fact that Howard has acknowledged being violent. Instead of comparing him to those he believes have been abusive, wouldn’t it be better if he called on his star to get himself some help? Or does he believe it is merely a matter of race and that only white guys get away with beating women?
