Dancing With the Stars Alek Skarlatos Talks About Shooting in Oregon at Umpqua College

Alek Skarlatos, who is an international hero and a contestant on Dancing With the Stars immediately booked a flight to his hometown of Roseburg, Oregon upon hearing about the shooting that took place at Umpqua Community College.


Skarlatos became an international hero when he stopped a terrorist while onboard a French train. The hero spoke about Roseburg, saying it is an incredibly small community. Skarlatos was initially registered to attend Umpqua Community College for Tuesday/Thursday classes but was then offered a spot on Dancing With the Stars. If Skarlatos hadn’t been on Dancing With the Stars, he would have been in class and could have very well become a statistic.

Alek spoke about finding out about the news and hiding in the bathroom so the cameras couldn’t see him. He then booked a flight within an hour and came home to be with his friends and family during this tragedy.

Skarlatos, who is from Roseburg, is studying for a career in law enforcement at Umpqua Community College.
