The Voice 2015 Knockout Rounds Recap 10/26/15 – Season 9 Knockout Rounds Night 1
The Voice kicks off the Knockout Rounds tonight, October 26, 2015 and the judges have enlisted the help of superstar Rihanna to help get their team members ready.
In this round the contestants are again paired against one of their teammates, but this time around they get to choose their own song and – with the help of their coach and Rihanna – have to pull off a performance amazing enough to get to stay in the competition. As with the previous round, their team coach alone has the final vote in who stays and who heads home.
We’ve got the early scoop on who’s performing tonight:
Andi and Alex – “Stupid Boy” by Keith Urban
Blaine Mitchell – “Hold Back the River” by James Bay
Results: Blake said that all three performers were “unbelievable,” but said that Alex and Andi didn’t choose a song that was as dynamic as Blaine. Pharrell seemed to agree, saying they should have chosen a song that showcased each of them individually a bit better. Gwen said the ladies were incredible to watch, while Blaine was also dubbed incredible. However, Adam’s opinion is the only one that matters and he said that the girls both shined (shone?) as individuals, and he thanks God that he was able to get Blaine in a steal. In the end he can only select one contestant to move on through, and he selected Blaine.
Jordan Smith – “Set Fire to the Rain” by Adele
Viktor Kiraly – “If I Ain’t Got You” by Alicia Keys
Results: (Note: I am in love with Jordan – who the heck takes on Adele and KILLS it?! This kid does. BOW DOWN.) (And then Viktor comes out and SLAYS Alicia Keys… yeah, good luck Adam. Good freaking luck!) Blake kicked it off with “man, everything was so good…” and said Viktor was “as good as it could be” and he knocked it out of the building. He said there was only one thing wrong… and that was that he went up against Jordan, which he described as “one of the greatest vocals alive.” Pharrell said he loved seeing Viktor take it to the next level, and that it’s always a pleasure to see Jordan sing so brilliantly and effortlessly. Gwen said that Jordan is a freak of nature to be able to navigate that song and it was “mind blowing.” And now Adam has to make probably the most impossible decision in life. Except… guys, he’s gotta give it to Jordan because ermergersh. Adam said they refer to him as “the unicorn” because it’s a profound experience to hear him sing and that listening to him is unbelievable. And, of course, Adam names Jordan the winner – because DUH!
With that, though, Viktor is still up for grabs for a steal… and Gwen slams on her buzzer with lightening speed. It would be insane for any of the judges to have let him go – and Jordan is absolutely thrilled for his former teammate to get swooped up. So yay!
Barrett Baber – “Colder Weather” by Zac Brown Band
Blind Joe – “Don’t Let Your Babies Grow Up To Be Cowboys” by Waylon Jones
Results: All of the judges agreed that the boths were both amazing, but Blake ultimately decided that Barrett was the winner of this round. That means that Blind Joe was available to steal, but unfortunately none of the judges snapped him up.
Ivonne Acero – “Part of Me” by Katy Perry
Chance Pena – “Demons” by Imagine Dragons
Results: Both of these performers did amazing, and the judges all agreed – however everyone seemed to be really plugging for Ivonne, and in the end Blake agreed and pushed her through to the next round. Chance was available to steal, but unfortunately none of the other judges bit.
Braiden Sunshine – “Feeling Good” by Nina Simone
Ellie Lawrence – “Cool For The Summer” by Demi Lovato
Results: Adam said that Braiden was amazing and while Ellie did well he thought Braiden did better. Blake seemed to agree, saying Braiden has been “affecting change in a positive way.” Pharrell said he loved Braiden’s performance, but at this point it’s only Gwen’s opinion that matters. She said she loved both performers, but awarded Braiden the winner.
Amy Vachal – “A Sunday Kind of Love” by Etta James
Madi Davis – “A Case of You” by Joni Mitchell
Results: All of the judges gave high praise to each of the contestants, and Pharrell said he felt like both of them won – which we know to be impossible. Ultimately he decided to name Madi the winner.
BUT that ain’t all folks – Adam buzzed in for the steal, and Blake jumped right in as soon as Adam started talking (which Adam said would happen). Blake reminded Amy that he begged her to join his team initially, and he hopes that now she’ll reconsider. Although Blake made a great case for himself, Amy decided to join team Adam.
We will be updating the judges comments and who won the battle rounds so be sure to come back!
