Project Runway’s Tim Gunn At War With the Kardashians and Kanye West Over Fashion
Tim Gunn always encouraged his “Project Runway” contestants to “make it work” when it came to their designs…and now he is saying the same thing to the Kardashian family and Kim’s husband Kanye West. Kanye made his Yeezy fashion week debut and in my opinion, the clothes made the models look like deformed aliens. Now, we cannot take away from West that his Yeezy Season 1 collection sold out and he is being honored with the Shoe of the Year Award so kudos to him. However, Gunn is not at all impressed with the collection or with the Kardashian’s style choices either. Tim Gunn spoke with the Huffington Post and was able to share his ill feelings towards one of America’s most talked about families. That’s right, Tim; give them more air time. Good press, bad press…it’s all press to them. He used words like “vulgar” and “distasteful” to describe them and then he really got mean. “I think they’re a bunch of dumb clothes. Just basic pieces,” Gunn said about the Yeezy collection.
He went onto add this: “When it comes to fashion I say to people all the time, if you want guidance for your fashion just consider this, if a Kardashian is wearing it — don’t. I think it’s vulgar and I just think given the amount of public exposure that the Kardashians have, to potentially be sending a message to people that ‘you too can dress like this’ — no.” So, he’s not going to be buying the collection from West or the Kardashians any time soon? As for modeling, he was asked about Kendall Jenner’s ability to succeed in the business, as her Estee Lauder campaign was recently released. “I shouldn’t say that she doesn’t, I don’t know her, she may be a perfectly lovely young woman, I just feel that she’s tainted by the Kardashian aura of ‘yuck.’” One thing that he must remember is that Kendall is a Jenner and does not have the Kardashian blood in her veins, like younger sister Kylie, who is also modeling.
This is not going to impact Gunn’s relationship with the family, he notes: “Let me tell you, the whole Kardashian clan doesn’t like me, so no surprise there.” I feel like Tim Gunn is a respected person in the fashion industry however it seems like what he is saying is really just jabs at the family and not at their ability to be fashionistas.
