Who Will Be Joining DWTS Judge Julianne Hough in “Grease: Live”- Details Here
“Grease: Live” is set to air on FOX on January 31st, 2016 and the first person to sign on was “Dancing With the Stars” former pro/current judge Julianne Hough. This makes sense as she launched a singing career a few years back and has been in a slew of films which include “Footloose” and “Safe Harbor.” She also starred alongside Tom Cruise in the big-screen adaptation of the Broadway hit “Rock of Ages.” Sadly, these films did not give Hough the success that she garnered on DWTS but the live version of “Grease,” where she is set to play Sandy, might break the curse. She is taking over the role from Olivia Newton-John, who was a guest judge a few weeks back on “Dancing With the Stars.” Live productions have been hit or misses as we have seen with “The Sound of Music” which starred Carried Underwood and “Peter Pan,” starring Allison Williams. Next up is “The Wiz Live!” which has an all-star cast like Queen Latifah and Common airing next month.
So, who will be joining Hough in the live small-screen adaptation of the hit film/ Broadway musical that helped solidify John Travolta as a sex symbol? Vanessa Hudgens of “High School Musical” fame will take on Stockard Channing’s role of Rizzo while “Call Me Maybe” singer Carly Rae Jepsen will be playing quirky beauty-school drop-out Frenchy. Aaron Tveit from “Les Miserables” will be filling Travolta’s shoes as Danny Zucco and Carlos PenaVega, currently on “Dancing With the Stars” with wife Alexa, will play Kenickie. This role was originated by the late Jeff Conway and it seems clear that they are taking “Grease: Live” in a different direction as Kenickie was this light-haired bad by and PenaVega had a hard time adjusting to his “Magic Mike” dance due to his strong religious beliefs.
Keke Palmer from “Scream Queens” will play Marty, who hooked up with an older dance show host in the film and “Teen Wolf” cast member Jordan Fisher has been cast as Doody. Andrew Call, who has spent time on Broadway, will play Sonny and Nickelodeon star Yvette Gonzalez-Nacer takes over as Cha Cha the best dancer from Saint Bernadette’s. Finally, Jessie J has signed on to sing an updated version of the theme song “Grease (Is The Word).” We are still missing a few central characters but we will keep you updated as we learn more, if we learn any more. What do you think of this cast? Excited or a waste of time? Let us know!
