American Idol Recap 2/24/10 – The Final 12 Men

American Idol is all about the men tonight.  After listening to the final 12 woman last night – let’s see how the men do.   The judges did not agree with each other as to who performed well and who didn’t – so it really is up to America to decide.

Todrick Hall – sang ‘Since You’ve Been Gone’  by Kelly Clarkson, the original American Idol winner.  As a huge fan of the original version – Todrick’s version left me wanting Kelly Clarkson’s version even more.  Ellen said “you are such a great performer”.  The singing wasn’t the greatest.  Randy said it didn’t even sound like the same song and you should never take a song and completely obliterate it.  Simon said Todrick came over as a dancer trying to sing.  He said he completely murdered the original song and what he just did was stupid. I agree.

Aaron Kelly – sang ‘Here Comes Good-Bye’ by Rascal Flatts.  Simon Cowell said he was a good singer but needed more confidence.  Kara said he was great and Randy and Ellen were in agreement.

Jermaine Sellers – sang ‘Get Here’  by Oleta Adams.  Randy said the song was an older song and not what he expected.  Simon said it sounded like he was screaming and that he blew his opportunity with that song.

Tim Urban – sang Apologize by One Republic.  Simon said that AI made the right decision by passing on him the first time.  The judges were all in agreement that it was the wrong song choice.

Alex Lambert – sang ‘What a Wonderful World’ by James Morrison.  Simon felt it was a very uncomfortable performance.  He felt that Alex needs to get rid of the nerves.  The judges agree he has the voice he just needs to pull it together.  Ellen said, “she likes that he hasn’t let go of the mullet”.  Ellen said we were all thinking.

Andrew Garcia – sang ‘Sugar, We’re Going Down’ by Fallout Boys.  Simon felt it was too serious and too indulgent.  He also felt he was a bit forgettable.  The judges felt that Andrew did better in Hollywood.

Casey James – sang ‘Heaven’ by Bryan Adams.  Kara has a BIG crush on Casey.  She was fumbling all over herself – but did say he was eye candy and ear candy too.  Simon said, “One thing I do understand is that we were both cursed with good looks” and then he complimented him on his performance.  One of the few nice things he said tonight.

Joe Munoz – sang ’You and I’ by Jason Mrazs.  Ellen like it.  Randy felt it wasn’t a good song choice but he did he a good job.  Simon Cowell thought it was an okay, safe, forgettable performance.

John Park  – sang ‘God Bless the Child’.  Simon felt there was no emotion in the song and it was a pointless performance.  Kara agreed with Simon.  Randy felt it was the wrong song choice.

Lee Dewyze  – sang ‘Chasing Cars’ by Snow Patrol.  Ellen thought it was a good song choice but a bit too much screaming.  Randy didn’t like the song for him but too rangy.  Randy sees him more as a rocker.  Simon thought he was the best performer of the evening.

Michael Lynche – sang ‘This Love’ by Maroon Five.  Ellen thought it was a great song choice and the judges believed he was a good performer.  Simon of course – didn’t think he did a good job.

Tim Urban

Tyler Grady – sang a tune from the 70’s, American Woman.  Simon said that he comes over as a cliche.  He needs to focus on his vocals and the judges agreed that he is becoming too predictable.

Simon was incredibly harsh this evening.  I’m with Simon – it’s the ladies we need to watch out for this season of American Idol.  The men left a lot to be desired.  What do you think??
