Kristen Stewart and Dakota Fanning star in this music-fueled story of the ground-breaking, all girl, teenage rock band of the 1970s: The Runaways, which opens in theatres today, March 19.

The film follows two friends, Joan Jett and Cherie Currie, as they rise from rebellious Southern California kids to rock stars of the now legendary group that paved the way for future generations of girl bands. Joan and Cherie fall under the Svengali-like influence of rock impresario Kim Fowley, played by Michael Shannon, who turns the group into an outrageous success and a family of misfits. With its tough-chick image and raw talent, the band quickly earns a name for itself—and so do its two leads: Joan is the band’s pure rock’ n’ roll heart, while Cherie, with her Bowie-Bardot looks, is the sex kitten.

Written and directed by Floria Sigismondi, the film chronicles Joan and Cherie’s tumultuous relationship on and off stage, as the band starts to break out.

Kristen Stewart and Dakota Fanning attend the New York Premiere of  ‘The Runaways’ last night (March 17th) at the Landmark Sunshine Cinema.

The Runaways were an all-girl teenage rock band from the 1970’s.  The foursome broke musical boundaries with their rebellious attitudes, naughty-girl personas and catchy guitar hooks.  The band’s career lasted from 1975 to 1979.

‘The Runaways’ opens in theatres on Friday, March 19th.

Dakota Fanning celebrated her 16th  Birthday at the Beverly Hills Villa Blanca Restaurant  on Saturday(Feb. 20).  The Sweet 16 festivities were from 7-11pm and included 40 of the birthday girl’s friends and family.  The New Moon actress will officially turn 16 on Tuesday (Feb. 23). 

Dakota’s new movie The Runaways is set to open in theatres on March 19th.  She will be starring alongside Kristen Stewart, Stella Maeve, and Scout Taylor-Compton.  Dakota will play Cherie Currie, the leader singer of the all-girl teenage rock band that performed in the 1970’s.

Dakota Fanning was seen leaving the movie theatre with Daniella (blonde, no glasses), Dominik (hat) and Alessandra (glasses) Garcia-Lorido and their father, Andy Garcia.   Andy Garcia can be seen in the background.

Dakota and the sisters were seen cracking up as they left the cinema after watching the James Cameron epic Avatar.

Dakota Fanning got her nails done on Christmas Eve with her sister Elle in Studio City on Thursday (December 24).

I had the opportunity to meet the sisters on the set of Elle’s movie, “Phoebe in Wonderland” and they are both so sweet and down to earth. 

Elle is four years younger than Dakota.  Something tells me Elle is going to have no problem snagging some great roles like Dakota.  Both of the Fanning sisters were supposed to star in My Sister’s Keeper last year but were replaced when Dakota changed her mind and didn’t want to have her head shaved for the role.

It would be great to see the two in a movie together.  What do you think??

From the first time we posted photos on the set of The Runaways – we knew it was going to be a must see movie.  Now, fans have their first glimpse at the film — and a singing Kristen Stewart — thanks to this trailer courtesy of MTV.

The Runaways refers to the titular band that consisted of Joan Jett (Stewart), Cherie Currie (Dakota Fanning), Lita Ford (Scout Taylor-Compton) and Sandy West (Stella Maeve). Coming together in Los Angeles while they were still teenagers, the foursome broke musical boundaries with their rebellious attitudes, naughty-girl personas and catchy guitar hooks.

Over the past year, “Twilight” fans have eagerly anticipated the indie flick and followed the various incarnations of Kristen’s Joan Jett hairdo and punk-loving attitude. Recently, the film was snagged for next month’s Sundance, released its first image and was acquired for a March 19 theatrical release.

The trailer for the film depicts fans mobbing the girls’ limo and shots of Kristen with Joan Jett’s signature haircut and red-leather jumpsuit.
