Kelly Clarkson looks beautiful in a rhinestone dress at the 2009 American Music Awards at Nokia Theatre L.A. on Sunday (November 22) in Los Angeles.
The show was broadcast live last night (November 22)from 8-11PM on ABC.
Performers included Janet Jackson, Rihanna, Whitney Houston, Shakira, Mary J. Blige, Daughtry, Keith Urban, Lady Gaga, Eminem, Jay-Z, Alicia Keys, Jennifer Lopez, The Black Eyed Peas, Kelly Clarkson, Carrie Underwood and Adam Lambert.
It’s definitely no surprise that “the incident” at last night VMA Awards when Kanye West took the microphone from Taylor Swift, where he interrupted Taylor Swift’s acceptance speech for Best Female Video to protest on behalf of Beyoncé, is still causing quite the stir – from both fans and celebrities.
In addition to the outcry of fan support for Swift, fellow celebrities continue to bolster the 19-year-old singer via Twitter and blog messages. The latest celebrity to come to Swift’s defense is fellow VMA nominee Kelly Clarkson, who penned an open letter to West on her blog.
“Dear Kanye, what happened to you as a child??” Clarkson wrote. “Did you not get hugged enough?? Something must have happened to make you this way and I think we’re all just curious as to what would make a grown man go on national television and make a talented artist, let alone teenager, feel like sh–. I mean, I’ve seen you do some pretty sh—y things, but you just keep amazing me with your tactless, a–hole ways. It’s absolutely fascinating how much I don’t like you. I like everyone. I even like my a–hole ex that cheated on me over you … which is pretty odd since I don’t even personally know you. The best part of this evening is that you weren’t even up for THIS award and yet you still have a problem with the outcome. Is winning a Moonman that much of a life goal?? You can have mine if it will shut you up. Is it that important, really??
“I was actually nominated in the same category that Taylor won, and I was excited for her … so why can’t you be??” the letter continued. “I’m not even mad at you for being an a–hole … I just pity you because you’re a sad human being. On a side note, Beyoncé has always been a class act and proved again tonight that she still is. Go TEXAS!! Taylor Swift, you outsell him … that’s why he’s bitter. You know I love your work! Keep it up girl!”

Mary-Kate Olsen tweeted, “I’m so glad Beyoncé gave Taylor her moment,” Olsen tweeted. “She knows what’s best!”
Joel Madden wrote, “WOW Taylor Swift’s first VMA and she didn’t even get to ENJOY it. Kanye you were just a bully on that one man.”
Katy Perry wrote on her page: “F**K U Kanye. It’s like u stepped on a kitten,”
Ricky Martin added, “Kanye, what an a**hole dude. (Swift) has sold more than 10 million cds in the last 2 years u deserve the award. 10 million fans cant be wrong. enjoy ur night!”
When I saw the photo of Kelly Clarkson on September’s issue of Self Magazine my first thought was “Wow”. My 2nd thought was how where do I sign up – I want to look just like that!!
I should have known better – not the fact that Clarkson looked absolutely gorgeous but the fact that it isn’t really her true Self. The September issue of Self Magazine is about total body confidence. Ironically – Self wasn’t feeling the confidence. They photoshopped it out.
The magazine’s top editor told ETOnline about the cover:
“Yes, of course we do post-production corrections on our images. magazine inspires and informs our 6 million readers each month to reach their all around best. Self Kelly Clarkson exudes confidence, and is a great role model for women of all sizes and stages of their life. She works out and is strong and healthy, and our picture shows her confidence and beauty.”
Kelly Clarkson put it more bluntly on her blog:
“They have definitely Photoshopped the crap out of me.” She doesn’t mind, though. “Whoever she is, she looks great.”
Why did they have to photoshop Clarkson in order for her to be a role model and exude confidence?? Leaving her “as is” could have done that!!
Clarkson told Self this:
“My happy weight changes. Sometimes I eat more; sometimes I play more. I’ll be different sizes all the time. When people talk about my weight, I’m like, ‘You seem to have a problem with it; I don’t. I’m fine!’ I’ve never felt uncomfortable on the red carpet or anything.”
If Clarkson herself is okay with her body, then why isn’t Self? Isn’t that the picture of true confidence??
To say I am extremely disappointed is an understatement – I trusted Self Magazine. What about you??
