“We Are the World — 25 for Haiti” premiered on Friday night (February 12) during the opening ceremony of the Olympics in Vancouver.
The song features appearances by a number of artists including Janet Jackson, Justin Bieber, Jordin Sparks, Kanye West, Lil Wayne and Pink.
Justin Bieber sang the opening for the song and there was an update that the original didn’t include - a heavy rap presence, with Wayne, West, Will.I.Am, T-Pain, Bizzy Bone, Kid Cudi, LL Cool J, Snoop Dogg, Drake, Mann, Nipsey Hussle, Busta Rhymes and Swizz Beatz all lending their voices to the track.
An appearance by Michael Jackson in the remake was a pleasant surprise.
The video was shot in 3-D, and green-screen technology will allow viewers at home to place themselves in the chorus. Lionel Richie spoke at a press conference earlier this month where he revealed that you “can put yourself into the ‘We Are the World’ family from the computer.” That sounds like a lot of fun!!
What do you think of the rap part that was added to the “new” version of the song??
All proceeds from “We Are the World” singles and video sales will go to the newly formed charity We Are the World Foundation LLC and will then be distributed to Haiti relief efforts. Click here for the official website.
