Diane Sawyer Leaving GMA to Replace Gibson on ABC’s World News

Diane Sawyer is leaving Good Morning America to replace Charles Gibson on ABC’s World News.

ABC News will announce today that Charles Gibson will leave “World News” in January and that Diane Sawyer will be named the new anchor of the network’s evening newscast.

Gibson has been the anchor of “World News” since May 2006.   Sawyer has been with Good Morning America since 1999.

This reminds me of Katie Couric’s exit from the Today Show for the CBS Evening News.  Couric has yet to reach the expectations as anchor of the CBS Evening News.  Hopefully Diane Sawyer will have better luck with her new stint.

Congratulations, Diane!
