Patrick Swayze, 57, died today after an almost two year battle with pancreatic cancer.
The Dirty Dancing star was diagnosed with this deadly form of cancer in early 2008, but he continued to work despite his diagnosis,  putting together a memoir with his wife and shooting “The Beast,” an A&E drama series for which he had already made the pilot. 

“One thing I’m not gonna do is chase staying alive,” Swayze told Barbara Walters in January. “You spend so much time chasing staying alive, you won’t live.”

“Patrick Swayze passed away peacefully today with family at his side after facing the challenges of his illness for the last 20 months,” said a statement released Monday evening by his publicist, Annett Wolf. No other details were given.
