Project Runway ReCap 2/4/10

It’s week 4 of Project Runway, and the thirteen remaining designers have a unique challenge: to create a signature red dress for Campbell’s “Address Your Heart” fashion week gala.   Their models are real women who have been affected by heart disease; the fact that they are real women rather than size 0 models makes the challenge even tougher, since the designers will have to create peices that flatter the models’ curves. Seth calls this the largest challenge he’s ever face.

The models are very excited for the opportunity to walk down the runway in the contestants’ creations, and each one seems to have a clear idea of what they want; but, as Tim reminds Seth, the look each designer creates should never compromise who he or she is. Anthony is especially thrilled about this challenge, since his mother suffered from heart issues. As usual, there are mini-disasters that occur while the designers are working: Jeanine’s dress falls into a bucket of water, and Jonathan declaring a “fashion emergency of epic proportions” right before they hit the runway. The trash talking also continues, with Emilio saying that Mila’s dress looks like “a cheap flag at a Thanksgiving day Parade”.

Appearing as a guest judge this week is Georgina Chapman of Marchesa, who has designed dresses for the likes of Anne Hathaway.   The judges love Amy’s design, a beautiful, long, etherial gown made of charmeuse fabric.   She is declared this week’s winner, with Mila and Myla also in the top 3.

Jesse’s short, tight satin dress with rhinestone straps gets slammed by the judges and causes him to be eliminated.  Michael Kors say that it looks as though he took everything tacky and threw it together into one dress. Also in the bottom 3 are Jesse, whose dress may have worked if he used a different fabric and got rid of the too short jacket, and Anna. Amy is happy that she won, but we wonder if Mila’s and Myla’s styles are a bit too similar to each other. Will there be room for both of them as the competition gets more fierce??
