Rihanna Speaks Out For the First Time Since The “Incident” on 20/20
For the first time since Rihanna was physically beaten by Chris Brown, she sat down with Diane Sawyer on 20/20 to discuss the incident, why she went back to him for a brief time and what she wants from Chris Brown.
When shown a photo of herself from the night of the incident, Rihanna feels humiliated and ashamed. Ashamed and embarrassed for falling in love with Chris Brown – the person who was responsible for her bruised and battered face.
Rihanna spoke about what happened the night of the incident. Rihanna found a text message from an old girlfriend and when she asked him about it he lied. She refused to drop the subject and he refused to tell her the truth. Until he got so mad he physically beat her.
During the interview, Rihanna revealed that like Chris Brown, she too came from an abusive home where her father beat her mother.
She spoke about meeting Chris Brown in Miami on March 1st, just three weeks after the incident. Chris Brown was thrilled to be back with Rihanna and was all smiles when spotted in Miami. Rihanna realized that by going back to Chris Brown she was being selfish – to her fans. She didn’t realize how much of an impact that she had on the lives of her fans and that even if Chris never layed a hand on her again – that may not be the case with someone else who is in the same situation.
Shortly after Miami, Rihanna broke it off with Chris. Chris had a hard time accepting that they were over.
Rihanna never saw the Chris Brown apology that was released a couple of months ago – until Diane Sawyer showed it to her. Rihanna’s reaction: “It sounds like he is reading from a teleprompter”. All Rihanna wants from Chris is for him to stop feeling sorry for himself and to take responsibility for his actions.
Coincidentally, Chris Brown is also speaking out tonight on another station. A selfish move on his part.
We didn’t learn anything new about the incident that wasn’t all ready in every newspaper. It was nice to hear it first hand and to see that Rihanna remains strong. While she is an empire unto herself – in reality she is a 22 year old girl just trying to live her life.
