The Biggest Loser Season 9 Premiere

When the new season of NBC’s hit series “The Biggest Loser: Couples” kicks off on Tuesday, January 5 (8-10 p.m. ET) with its heaviest cast ever, contestants will not be facing their first weigh-in at “The Biggest Loser” ranch as usual. Instead, they’ll be weighing in in their hometowns in front of family and friends for the first time ever in the history of the show.

The eleven couples start their weight loss journeys very publicly in their hometowns, standing on the scale and acknowledging their starting weights in front of the families, friends and communities who will cheer them on throughout their journeys. Then it’s off to the ranch, where the teams meet host Alison Sweeney and face their first challenge before they’ve even had a chance to unpack. And it’s the most difficult challenge that new contestants have ever had to face — a bicycling competition in which each team will have to cover 26.2 miles on stationary bikes, the same distance as the marathon that finalists ran at the end of the previous “Biggest Loser” season. But even more shocking is a surprise twist that makes the stakes higher than ever in the first challenge of the season.

After the challenge, contestants get a chance to spend time together and share their own personal reasons for trying to get their health and their lives back. From identical twin brothers who together weigh close to half a ton, to the heaviest contestant ever weighing in at 526 pounds to several parent/adult child teams eager to stop the cycle of obesity in their families, they all come together eager to transform their bodies and their lives.

Later, after persevering through their first week of workouts with trainers Bob Harper and Jillian Michaels, they weigh in at the ranch to see the results of their hard work – and one contestant breaks a “Biggest Loser” record. Then the contestants head to the elimination room to decide who will be the first player to leave the ranch.

The season premiere of “The Biggest Loser: Couples” officially kicks off the second year of the Pound For Pound Challenge. “The Biggest Loser” is partnering with General Mills, Feeding America, Subway and 24 Hour Fitness on this powerful initiative which allows viewers to help themselves get healthy while helping to fight hunger in their own communities. Viewers can go to www.biggestloser.com now and for every pound of weight loss pledged, a pound of groceries will be delivered to a local food bank.

QVC will also be celebrating the much-anticipated premiere of “The Biggest Loser: Couples” as it welcomes back season five winner Ali Vincent on Wednesday, January 6. The first female “Biggest Loser” is scheduled to make several appearances throughout the day, with broadcasts starting at midnight and 6 a.m. ET , to offer signature items from “The Biggest Loser’s” healthy lifestyle product line. Vincent, who lost 112 pounds during season five, has continued to inspire others by keeping the weight off more than a year later with the help of “The Biggest Loser’s” wide array of products.
